We chose this restaurant based on the rating. The ambience was very modern, if a little too much. Even with the background knowledge that there is no fresh fish in Mauritius, I opted for the tuna carpachio. It was beautifully presented and the first bite was surprising. Unfortunately not surprisingly good, but rather the opposite. It was garnished with passion fruit seeds and other sour fruit balls, which made you no longer taste the fish itself. It was simply overloaded with unnecessary garnish which made it impossible to taste even a hint of tuna, even if you scraped everything else down. For my main course, I chose the frutti de mare soup and was even more disappointed. This soup had nothing to do with a seafood soup. When I asked if they had served me the right soup, they confirmed that it was the right one. There were 2 pieces of fish, 3 overcooked prawns and a lot of an undefinable ingredient in the soup. It looked like noodles, but even after the first bite to find out what it was, I would have to spit it straight out. It was inedible and tougher than the hardest shoe sole. If this was squid/octopus, then hats off to the chef. You have to have a talent to prepare squid that tasteless and horrible. Unfortunately, the food was so appalling that even the ambience or the service could have made up for it. I do not recommend this restaurant and will not...
Read moreMy family and I visited Le Pakbo yesterday with high expectations, considering its rating and popularity on tiktok. However, we were very disappointed with our experience!
As it was very hot outside, we requested a table indoors. Initially, the waiter said that it wasn't possible. However, a waitress came and seated us inside.
The menu looked interesting, and the food was nicely presented as well. I had ordered grilled prawns with rice and vegetables, a chicken and mushroom for my husband and sausage and french fries for my daughter. To our surprise, her dish arrived without any accompaniments such as bread or a salad, making it look so basic.
We ordered calamari and crispy chicken as starters, which were served pretty quickly. Our drinks orders also were served with our starters. The real disappointment, however, was the wait time for our main course. We were the first clients in the restaurant, yet it took around 50 minutes for our meals to be served. The prawns looked deep fried rather than grilled and the chicken overcooked and the sauces were bland.
In conclusion, the restaurant's reputation seems to be overrated, as our overall dining experience did not live up to the set expectations. We left feeling disappointed and unlikely to return...
Read moreWe visited for dinner, as the other reviews suggested to expect an excellent night out when visiting Pakbo. It was good, but it was shadowed a little by the lack of seafood in the seafood dishes.
The 900RS prawn curry had 5 prawns and the 1400 house signature dish had 3 of the Gambas size prawns. On an island, next to the seaside, in a $$-$$$ rated street cafe - you'd expect more. The shrimp cocktail had more of the tiny ones but the dish itself was somewhat overflowing with mayo-ketchup sauce that I'd expect in between a cheap burger. Last dish we had was the chicken skewers - they tried to mimic the satay skewers a little, but were made out of the breast cut, instead of the thighs. So was somewhat dryish. But the mayo of course saved this one!
The T1 punch was made with lime juice, rum and sugar. Not sugar sirup. Just a spoonful of solid sugar was thrown in to the drink and with ice - it never melted. Margarita was the star of the evening. If they had also missed that, we'd not have been too happy. But it made up for some of the lacking on the food side.
PS beer is 300 per 0.5L. But I guess a canteen that is highly rated on this site, can afford to rise prices...
