Would give 1 star, but food was good so i will give 2 stars. I really didn't like the server or waiter, a man who was serving us, i though that he is very rude with his colleagues and customers. We came, girl waitress was friendly and said nothing that we came, we choosed a table, this guy start to say that is reserved, so we took another table. He came to us start to say, we usually accepting customers with bookings only, because these all tables are reserved, so i said okey, we can go somewhere else than. Oh no no! I am here, all good, you sit down here, its ok. So why than you making this as it is such a big deal?? Gives menus to man first not to ladies, talking rude, no manners, pointing with the finger, and tells the same story to every single client who comes for dinner, that oh usually we take people who reserves the tables, but ok, come, i am here, i will sort out, all people looked confused, we stayed two hours and these tables which he said are reserved no one came for reservation there were random people.. We wanted to spend lovely evening but this guy annoyed us, came said, you know this table reserved, so i just said should we go now than, oh no no, stay, i just didn't know that you will be here so long! Really? we bringing money for this restaurant, and this is how you talk..Before coming to this place we checked online, so than maybe write it down: Important info, need to reserve a table! And than will be everything clear. By the way Girls waitresses look scared of him and afraid to do something bad, because he will give out in front of all...
Read moreWe went for a dinner with 5. Atmosphere is very nice here. Its a nice garden with a good seating setup. The cocktail's are very good here. No watered down lemonades but proper cocktails made by the book. And thats where our good experience stopped. As with a lot of Mauritian/African restaurants the service and knowledge of the waiters is low. With out of the box questions or requests they have no way. Also it's the kind of place with too many seats for the kitchen's capacity! We were there early and the place wasn't full. Ordering went smooth and we didnt have very special dishes but it took 1 hour and 5 min to serve the first two dishes. By that time the place was almost full. We got two ordinary steaks , both ordered medium rare and were served cold. One was very rare the other was ok. Ten minutes later two curries were served cold. On the suggestion of the waiter to heat it all up i asked for the manager. She let replace the curry within 5 minutes. The new rice never arrived. All that time my youngest child was waiting for her child size pizza margarita. When everybody was done she finally got her food. You can guess the atmosphere at the table. We got an extra round of drinks to make up for everything and that was nice. That is also where my issue is with Sunset garden. It could easily be one of the better places to have dinner, and maybe it was one of those nights where it al went wrong. I say it deserves a second chance and i wouldnt discourage you from going because overall reviews are ok. But for this visit it is a 2...
Read moreWe decided to eat at this restaurant because it had a rating of over 4 on Google, looked nice, and had some people inside.
The staff was very friendly and welcoming, but unfortunately, the food was a disaster. I ordered a fish fillet with fries and sautéed vegetables: the fries were old and reheated in the microwave (clearly so), the vegetables were barely cooked and still raw, and sadly, I couldn’t even eat the fish. The taste and smell were so strong that I couldn’t touch it. I’m no stranger to eating fish: I know the local seafood but this one had such an odd, almost stinging taste, as if it were old.
My friends ordered fried noodles, which were undercooked and the worst I’ve ever had in Mauritius. The chicken & prawn curry was decent, as was the sizzling beef.
It seems like they have just anyone cooking in the kitchen. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this place at all. There are so many great restaurants around, this one was truly...
