01/09.24 : I visited House of Canton at Ebene to celebrate my mum's birthday. The restaurant's ambiance is impressive, with a well-designed interior that creates a welcoming atmosphere. However, there were a few aspects of our dining experience that could be improved.
Ambiance and Environment: While the main dining area was comfortable, the noise from a private room where live football was being broadcasted was quite disruptive. Even though we weren't in the private room, the loudness carried over, which detracted from the overall experience. The private room should be better soundproofed to ensure that the main dining area remains a pleasant space for all guests.
Food: The food was a mixed experience. My wife ordered fried rice, and my mum ordered Cantonese fried rice. However, both dishes were served together on one plate, and the waitress informed us afterward that they were prepared the same way. This was disappointing, as we expected some variation between the two dishes. The crispy squid, unfortunately, did not live up to expectations, lacking the crispiness and flavor one would hope for. On a positive note, the pineapple fish was a highlight â it was well-prepared, flavorful, and definitely worth trying.
Drinks: The fruit juices we ordered were a letdown, lacking the freshness and taste we expected. If you're dining here, I'd recommend opting for fizzy drinks instead, as they might be a more satisfying choice.
Overall: House of Canton has its strengths, particularly in its interior design and dishes like the pineapple fish. However, the noise from the private room and the lack of distinction between the fried rice dishes were notable drawbacks. With some improvements, especially in communication and noise management, this could be a more enjoyable...
Read moreThe food is good but the service is the worst. All the waiters look grumpy, are not welcoming at all, and talk to you like you are bothering them. They just show you to your table and then you wait and wait for them to bring the menu. But they never do so you have to get up and go ask them because they donât even bother to look your way. The waiter serving dim sum thinks that because he serves the same thing everyday, every client should know his menu too. No, some people are regulars but some are accompanied by people going there for the first time. So you should have the decency to explain what is in your dim sum baskets to the new clients, instead of replying âthe usualâ. Even when I mentioned to the waiter that that person has never tried dim sum before (being from another country), he just recited âchicken, shrimp, calamariâ without even showing the different varieties, cause thereâs clearly more than that on his trolley. So i had to ask again about every different basket so that the person with me could make their choice. That waiter clearly is not a good fit to work there, and it was a very bad experience for a first...
Read moreUnimpressed in general. Considering the price of everything, the food was good but not that great. The location is just terrible. It is like an office converted into a sort of canteen eating area. Open, with just a few pillars. It's all great for visibility and walking to and from your table but the noise and the echo of the noise is the worst I've experienced in a 'high-end' restaurant. The dim sum were actually really good, however the person serving it seemed as if he couldn't be bothered in giving any information other than "this is prawn, this one's chicken" and we, as customers, from our seats, could see a damn thing about what he was talking about...
