Read other reviews about how service is terrible? It's not lies. Here's my story.
I had a friend visiting from abroad and we had heard good things about the food so we called a full week before our planned booking on a Sat. We asked the staff what time they opened, we were told noon, so we said okay book us a table for noon knowing that for dim sum things can get busy. No problem.
When we arrived the restaurant was already half full and carts were already going around. So things started off with staff lying to us.
Then we got seated in the corner near the door/entrance. Not usually a problem if we actually get served. You see the issue is that carts come out of the kitchen all the way across the room diagonally. So we were at the absolute furthest away from the kitchen. We got offered food (this was dim sum) once and that was it for the entire meal.
I got up asked them to mindful of us after I noticed carts never reaching us. We were told they wouldn't forget us. Great, right? Right?? A large ten-ish table sat next us. They got food. We didn't.
I got up again, was again told a cart would come to us. I insisted, come to us first right? Rather than after having served all the tables in between us and the kitchen (which given out positioning was ALL the tables). We were told yes.
That didn't happen. So I got up a third time and had to insisit even more otherwise we'd never get food.
My grandfather boycotted Lai Min in the 70s/80s for service related reasons. For three generations this lasted. For three generations none of my family or cousins ever step foot in Lai Min. Not when we ate out. Not when were invited out. Not when there were events.

Read moreWe came for dinner on a Wednesday night with a group of 8 and I was very impressed with the decor and the warm welcome. With such a setup of this class, I instantly raised the bar for food quality. Let me tell you that every single dish exceeded my expectations and then some. I have tasted a lot (and I mean a lot) of Chinese fine cuisine, and I can tell you that this one ranks within the top. Each and every one of the menu was delicately prepared, all bursting with flavours and even the simple eggplant that I used to know changed character when it arrived on a sizzling pan, with pieces of braised pork wedged in between the vegetable and all drowned in a rich caramelized sauce, which is just out of this world. This has now become one of my fav. The “vielle rouge” fish was steamed to perfection. The braised pork on mustard “Moy Choy Newk” just melted in your mouth. Our waitress was super attentive and always fast to respond to our requests from start to finish. To conclude, I have to take a peek at the washroom facilities which scored high notes, in terms of cleanliness. Great overall experience in this culinary adventure and congrats to the chef and owners who are meticulous in every single detail, having left...
Read moreI was very disappointed with this restaurant. I went there for their dim sum with 2 tables of reservations. Their food is very mediocre for the price they charge.
More importantly, if you are planning to celebrate an occasion there with multiple tables and have special requests, please avoid. They will tell you "yes yes yes" on everything then when you are there, you get completely disappointed. I specially spoke with their manager "Jennifer" who told me they had a private room with Karaoke. My little daughter was so excited about it and I told her like 5x times to ensure that the karaoke is working! Obviously, you would arrive and the karaoke won't work. Not even sending anyone to sing happy birthday for my daughter.
On top, their washroom/toilet is discusting! Their sink (Lavabo) is broken, no soap and hand dryer completely not functional. Don't expect they will even care a bit! Terrible customer service, terrible management, place is not clean and very mediocre food! There are many other chinese restaurants in Mauritius! Just stay away...
