HY EBENE - Epicurean Cuisine & Sky Pub — Restaurant in Moka

HY Ébène is usually one of my favourite restaurants on the island. But this time, service was a bit disappointing. :( We were just 2 of us and we're given a table in the corner of the restaurant with a nice view over the cyber city which was quite nice. However, service was slow, and it seems as if we were forgotten sometimes even if there were not many tables on that day. To order dessert, we even had to go to the counter to do same because the waiter did not check on us at all once our dishes were served. 😒 However, the food was exceptional as usual. Our starter came after our main but we will not complain as all the dishes were beautifully presented, full of flavours and delicious. We ordered the mushroom vol-au-vent, the seafood gratin and the beef medallion. The seafood gratin was very rich with fish, mussels, prawns, and calamari and just the right amount of gratinated cheese on top. The beef medallion was cooked to perfection accompanied with truffle mashed potatoes and salad. I just wanted to take a moment to sincerely thank Mr Darren for the incredible care and dedication he showed in organizing my friend's birthday celebration at the venue on 03th july 2025

From start to finish, everything was flawless. He didn’t just manage the event — He owned it with such grace and professionalism. The decorations were perfectly set, the atmosphere was warm and vibrant, and every little detail felt so thoughtfully planned. It was clear that Mr Darren went above and beyond to make sure my friend felt special and that all of us had a beautiful experience.

What touched me the most was how genuinely kind and attentive He was throughout the night — checking in with guests, keeping the flow smooth, and handling everything with a calm and friendly presence even the service were so rapid. That kind of energy is rare, and it made the night not just a party, but a memory.

Not really nice staff- they are far inside near the bar and you have to walk a big distance to call them for anything your table might need. My friend took a ‘salmi ourite’ and that was so spicy that she left almost all of it. The manager refused to take it out of the bill at first and the cook came to us saying it is normal for a salmi to be that hot. I specifically asked for chili sauce to accompany my fries and dipped one in the chili and said I am Used to eating chili but this salmi was definitely too hot. The manager said that chili sauce was not that hot anyways! But … salmi is naturally extra hot/spicy! And I replied if a food is spicy, you should indicate same on your menu! Also I showed recipes for mauritian salmi online which did not have chili at all and referred local restaurants which serve salmi neutral. They did not have proper customer service to deal with these type of issues ! from that experience, we will not set foot there! A shame !
