Restaurante Sazón a la Mexicana is hands down one of the best meals we had in Bacalar. If you're looking for authentic, homemade Mexican food that hits all the right notes — this is the spot. The place feels cozy and welcoming, and the service was kind, fast, and genuinely attentive.
Now let’s talk food: I ordered the shrimp burger on a whim, and it blew me away. I wasn’t expecting much more than a novelty item, but what I got was a perfectly cooked, well-seasoned shrimp patty that was juicy and flavorful, topped with fresh veggies and a creamy sauce on a soft, toasted bun. It was both satisfying and surprisingly light. Absolutely delicious and unlike anything I’ve had elsewhere in Mexico.
My partner had the enchiladas suizas, which came smothered in a tangy green sauce with melted cheese and tender chicken inside. Every bite was comforting and rich without being heavy. We also shared a side of guacamole and sipped on homemade agua de maracuyá — both fresh and flavorful.
The whole experience felt like we were being fed by someone’s loving tía — the kind who makes sure you’re full before you even finish your plate. The salsas on the table were clearly made in-house, and each one had a different personality, from smoky heat to citrusy brightness.
Prices are more than fair for the generous portions and quality. It’s not touristy, just the real deal — a place where locals and in-the-know travelers come to eat well.
Highly recommend the shrimp burger, but honestly, everything we saw coming out of the kitchen looked amazing. We’ll...

You can see the world of travelers wandering by, but you are safe and well fed and everything is as it should be. Every dish we have had has been perfect, every drink divine. We loved the slight old style hippie vibe with the Beatles playing on the sound system and the clientele seemed to get the message and things were just chill. Not over top or anything, just chill. You know, good food in a great environment, with good...
Read moreLooks cute and fancy, but food was very “regular” and portions were not large. I didn’t even take a picture if that gives you an idea. Ultimately we decided to eat here because it was visible and we bumped into it while hungry.
Served a cold coffee, then charged for the replacement because the first was 1/2 consumed - just irritating stuff like that. Charge 4% for credit cards which is something that was very common in mejico…a decade ago.
The gal bringing out the dishes is very sweet and cheerful, but the guy doing the bills has a...
