Absolutely beyond perfect. Madre Masa is not just a restaurant – it’s a culinary experience that captures the soul of Mexico with every bite. We were fortunate to dine here twice during our 3-day stay in Bacalar, and each visit was unforgettable.

Chef-owner Benjamin, who comes from a Michelin-starred background in Mexico, pours his heart and soul into everything – and you feel it. Every single dish, every pastry, every plate is crafted in-house with stunning attention to detail and flavor.

We tried multiple dishes and an embarrassing number of pastries because we simply couldn’t stop eating. Everything was that good. The carnitas chilaquiles were mind-blowing — rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. And the croissant filled with guayaba? Hands down the best croissant I’ve had in my life — and I’ve lived in Paris. Nothing compares.

Benjamin is not only an extraordinary chef, but also a gracious host. His passion is obvious in every interaction and dish. The service is warm, personal, and genuine — the kind of care you only get when the owner truly lives for his craft.

Do not miss the chance to eat here while in Bacalar — you’ll be tasting the creations of a true Michelin-star chef in a cozy, heartfelt setting. Madre Masa is a rare gem, and I can’t...

This was our favorite breakfast on our trip to Bacalar!! We loved it so much we went back the next day. I found Madre Masa because I was searching for a good, strong coffee and I fell in love with the iced coffee here. They even prepared it blended with some fresh coconut which gave it a little creaminess. The pastries are all made from scratch and are delicious. Our favorite was the cinnamon roll which we ate to-go the first day but the second day we had it warmed up on the spot and it was AMAZING. I wish I’d known earlier that they had other meals here so we could have sampled more of their menu. Great quality ingredients, excellent bread/baked goods, and the staff were super friendly and accommodating (gracias Benjamin!). We’ll definitely be back the next time...

OK so I have to write a review about this place, it's been about 2 weeks ago we've visited this place. We ordered 2 frappuccino drinks, a cinnamon roll and 2 sandwiches. We never got the sandwiches, we asked for them and still didn't receive them, after we asked for the bill and told them we didn't want the sandwiches anymore, I think what was the owner came to our table and apologized to us, saying something went wrong with the order and he really felt bad about it, he told us we could just leave without paying but asked us to come back the day after to make it up. We did! Only for takeaway since we left Bacalar that day, we had the amazing cinnamon rolls again, they are the best we ever had! We really appreciated the way the owner handled the situation!!...

I was there twice. Food is quite good, even half-decent bread which is no mean feat in Mexico. But the service could be better. I ordered a bagle, and the waiter was telling me this was pretty small and not enough for breakfast. So I ordered more, which turned out to be far too much. Second time they asked me if it would be ok for me to sit at a small table (looks like kids table). I said ok, if nothing else is free I will go there until something else becomes available. It wasn't very comfortable. When someone left and I wanted to switch, they took the table from me because a group of 5 had just arrived, and they needed two tables. Prioritize the people who are already in your restaurant, not new arrivals.
