We loved it here! 💝 The service is some of the best we have received out here. especially for a small independent restaurant. Resort type 🥳 FIRST it is located in downtown San jose where parking can be a nightmare. We went last night during the Thursday Art walk festival but Omakai has Free Valet! Which was something that could have altered your experience. This makes it smooth & easy to come and eat. Our waiter was actually waiting outside when we pulled up to walk us in! 💝 Everyone was so knowledgable, gracious, and kind. Maria Rocks! 🥳 Her English is fluent and solid so no communications issues at all. There are 3 different ways to eat here so you can come to this restaurant 3 different times and have completely different experiences. When you walk in through foyer..the first area up is the Teppanyaki (think Benihana where they cook in front of you) Bathrooms are also located there. Then you walk out into an open courtyard where A la Carte is served...and across the way you can see through glass walls Omakase/sushi chefs. Reservations would be recommended since seating is limited especially with Teppanyaki and Omakase. Omakase here starts i think around 100 which is not bad! I have seen omakase for much more in my travels. Our meal was about 100. We had about 8 items we ordered: 1 glass of plum wine (which was not a big pour), pork belly gyoza which was delicious (came w 6 pieces). We had otoro topped with foie gras! 🤤 I did not know what Ikura was but i think it was fish eggs. So our Shiso Tostado was a bit salty because of the amount of eggs...i could not taste the bluefin tuna. We probably would not order that again. Or i would with the eggs on the side. It only came with 1 piece so we had to order an additional and that alone was about 250 pesos for the one. The rolls we got were okay but probably would not do again. Hamachi maki and Unagi maki. I would probably have done the salmon with truffle pieces instead but next time. 💝 The unagi sauce had a burnt smokey taste to it. They have no dessert. We sat in courtyard and was a bit breezy but they brought super soft blankets in a basket (i needed two - one for my legs and the other for my shoulders). They have the purse Trees which are awesome! My recommendation would to at least put a purse hook in the womens bathroom. on the way out i had to go but did not want my purse on floor so i put it on the back of the toilet as there were no hooks or place to put it. They give you real wet cloths that you use in beginning of meal to wipe hands and they have a ponzu sauce option on table besides soy sauce. We would be back again. 🥳 Overall our experience was awesome. From calling to make reservation to the very end leaving. They asked for valet ticket when they brought us the Bill so our car was ready when we were...
Read moreI went to Omakai for their omakase this evening. The restaurant itself is breathtaking! The ambiance was a real treat. I sat down at the omakase bar and was greeted by the waiter. While he went to put in my drink order the 1 sushi chef behind the counter asked me which omakase option I was interested in doing. When I told him I wanted to do the Premium offering, he took a long pause and just shook his head. He told me it was too much food for me and I should start with the smallest offering they had. Odd to suggest I lower the $$ spent in your restaurant but I trusted his advice and went with the smallest offering. The quality of the sushi was definitely there- very fresh and balanced, fresh flavor. That said, it seems as though the sushi chef was having an off night. The pieces created for me were incredibly simple. A brush of ponzu on some and a spinkle of lime zest on others. The only memorable piece given to me had truffle on top. I'm biased given I have Micheline star restaurant Mujo in my local neighborhood- my expectations for $100+ US omakase are very high. All of this said, the food is very good here. I would highly suggest dining in rather than choosing the omakase, as the presentation, inventiveness, and attention to detail are lacking at the...
Read moreWe have now gone twice within 2 weeks! Once for sushi on their terrace and last night for their tepanyaki experience. We definitely will be going to go back to try their omakase experience as well. I cannot even begin to tell you how wonderful this Japanese restaurant is. You will have unique creations with beautiful presentation, the freshest fish, the best service and want to be back for more. I highly recommend having their pork belly gyoza, it has a light crunch with the right balance of fat that will make your eyes roll into the back of your head. Also, if the King salmon is available try it with the truffle butter. It’s a melt in your mouth luxury of silky salmon with a luscious umami. Everything we tried and we tried a lot was wonderful. The beautiful atmosphere makes you feel like you’re in Japan. They’ve paid attention to so many details to create an impeccable dining experience. Going to downtown San Jose del Cabo can always be a challenge for parking but Omakai provides a valet service! That’s a HUGE plus....
