Aguachiles El Moky — Restaurant in Baja California Sur

This is our favourite place in San Jose del Cabo! We love the small menu of sashimi, aguachile, baja shrimp taco and baja fish taco. Everything is amazing, and the tacos are the best baja style we’ve had. El Moky and his son do an excellent job and take great pride in serving fresh, delicious seafood. They have won competitions and rightly so. The ice cold light beer is ultra refreshing. It’s a favourite spot with the locals, and the prices are excellent value. This was our first stop after getting off the bus in San Jose and what a warm welcome it was.

The aguachile, served in the same molcajete the chilies were pounded in and laced with lime and salt, was delicious. Just pure Baja flavor at its best.

The real stand out for me were the shrimp tacos. The batter on the shrimp and fish was impeccable. Light, crunchy and spiked with bits of herbs that I couldn’t quite put my finger on. I highly recommend trying a bit of the battered shrimp and fish in your taco before dressing it with all the tasty toppings.

For all you tourists that want to experience real Mexican cuisine come here for aguachile (fyi ceviche is not Mexican, which most people confuse this dish for). I’m surprised there aren’t more places like this. For beginners I’d recommend getting medium spicy (it’s meant to be super spicy). They also have a nice Mexican style “sashimi” which we almost loved more than their aguachile but was at least equally as delicious, highly recommend this place...
