Umi Ramen — Restaurant in Baja California Sur

This surely was the worst restaurant I’ve ever been to.

Inconsistency of menu description: Donkotsu ramen, which should have no seafood in it based on the menu description, contains huge chunks of old fishy tasting shell pieces. Horrible food quality: Salmon was too old and stinky, and I ended up having stomachache immediately. Also tuna lost its color, almost white. Seafood ramen’s shrimps had horrible smell of old seafood, and ended up having stomachache. Disgusting manners of the waiter, shoutout to Jose Miguel Moreno. I explained all the things above to him, and he didn’t even blink, nor apologize, and asked for tips and card payment. Poorly located restroom. The restroom is located right next to raw fish and the kitchen. Very unhygienic and no wonder why I got food poisoned.

If you want to waste your money, end up with bad stomach, horrible outdated fish smell on your mouth for all night, and feel bad by the uneducated and unempathetic behaviors of the waiter, I recommend you strongly to visit this restaurant.

Edit: I was having the worst gastroenteritis of my life all night. Vomit, nausea, fever, hypersensitivity, and spent all night shivering in pain. I thought of going to emergency, and calling police for selling the outdated food, however, a waste of my time and energy, so I have not.

However, I hope this review can give them a lesson to use a proper ingredient in the future, if they want to keep their business.

Be careful with these types of uncompetitive restaurants, specifically when they use raw fish.

Worst gastronomy...

My wife and I have recently become residents of La Paz. Today (02/20/25) we stumbled across the Umi sushi restaurant. We recommend this restaurant and chef wholeheartedly! Earlier attempts to find a good sushi place here were not successful. Our first attempt resulted in a menu that started with a notice that said, in large letters, “NO SUSHI”. The next place, which I will not name as we do not enjoy negative reviews, was simply horrible, offering only tuna or salmon nigiri and the worst rice we have encountered in Mexico. At Umi, I had the Nigiri sampler plate consisting of one, each, of the 8 nigiri varieties offered. Wow, each piece was fresh, tasty, and wrapped around perfectly prepared and seasoned rice. Always had a good meal here and found it to be very consistent. Today, however, something was off with my Poke Bowl. First, I ordered the mixto but it had only tuna and no shrimp. Usually it comes with a crab salad but this time it did not. The flavor was bland and not very appetizing.
