My review is based off on my last trip in TJ and going to Oryx.
Come on guys, you have to get your method straight. The first time I went to Oryx was on April 2021. And the pictures you see are from April 2021.
The food is amazing, wonderful servers, and the most flavorful food I’ve tried.
However, my wife and our friends went to Oryx on May 22, 2021. It’s really a shame to be giving them this starts. Specially the fact that it took over 45 min to get our appetizers and another 1hr for our main entrees. Our main entrees were not garnished like they were the first time we went in April. Very disappointing because it just seemed as if the cooks gave up mid service and deicida to just give us what they wanted.
The servers are still amazing and wanted to correct the mistakes. But after waiting 1:45 hours for our food, I don’t think it was worth waiting any longer.
Other tables had been waiting and no food going out. Just a disaster in the kitchen. Then we get told “well you shouldn’t come saturdays because it’s always busy, you should come on mondays”. This is why there is a reservation list that shows the amount of people coming in. Be better staffed and prepared.
When we first ordered the server came back 20 minutes later saying they were out of what we ordered and if we wanted another item. So they were just not prepared to handle the amount of people coming back again.
Please get your kitchen staff straight and have a...
Read moreWow. This was one of the best dining experiences I've had in recent years. Not just the food, but the service was also top notch. We travel around a lot for food, and we were blown away by the whole experience. So much attention to detail, and it was nice how much pride everyone who worked there took in what they do.
As far as the food goes, I think our favorite dish was actually the black taco (I almost cried eating it, incredible). The pulpo and the aguachile verde were also standouts. Honestly, everything was good.
Wanted to extend a further shout out to our server Oscar! He was yery passionate about food and wine, and he really added to the overall experience. As someone who worked in the industry for some time, I really appreciated all of his efforts.
My only critique if I had one would be the wine list. Like a lot of the restaurants in Tijuana and Mexico overall, they focus on local wines. While I can appreciate that, it is nice to have other options, especially in white wine and dessert categories.
They make up for it with their cocktails though!! Incredible. Make sure to ask about their speak easy, Nortico. Did not...
Read moreWay over priced! Upscale type of dishes, beautiful presentation but mediocre flavors or overcooked. I tried the tongue that is a very tender type of meat and the cooking was too chard, dry and definitely nothing to remember. The “black taco” was ok but nothing that I’ll crave in the future, like I said, just “ok”. The only really good thing was the blue fin tostada, quite tasty, flavors very well balanced and in a beautiful presentation. The wine is very expensive too (I think the cheapest bottle starts around $100 dls, in Baja, as a wine country, you can find for that price better options in other restaurants. The service of the crew was impeccable, very friendly, professional and well trained, unfortunately the kitchen, in my opinion, lets them down. The atmosphere and vibe of the place is wonderful but if you are looking for a tasty meal along with it I don’t think is...
