Review: Cenacolo - An Enchanting Evening in Cancun's Hotel Zone
Cenacolo in Cancun's Hotel Zone offers a truly memorable dining experience, enhanced by its captivating outdoor seating. Our reservation for an al fresco table proved to be an excellent choice, providing a spectacular panorama of the setting sun – a breathtaking backdrop to our evening.
The experience began with expertly crafted cocktails. My husband's classic margarita was a testament to perfect balance, while my mojito offered a refreshing start to the meal. Our appetizer, the classic caprese featuring creamy burrata, was simply delicious, showcasing the quality of the fresh ingredients.
The house-made pasta proved to be a highlight of the evening. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his spaghetti chitarra alla marinara, a vibrant dish featuring the unique texture of black guitar spaghetti complemented by a generous medley of shrimp, calamari, and clams in a rich red marinara sauce. My speghettoni alla carbonara di mare was equally impressive, a delightful seafood twist on the traditional carbonara, featuring perfectly cooked speghettoni. The evident care and skill in crafting these pastas were truly remarkable.
Our dining experience was further elevated by the exceptional service provided by our waiters, Zorisadai and Juan Carlos. Their attentiveness and insightful recommendations for wine pairings beautifully complemented our entrees, demonstrating a genuine passion for enhancing the meal.
While we intended to conclude our meal with espresso martinis as dessert, the restaurant surprised us with a heartwarming touch. Upon learning it was my birthday (mentioned during the reservation), the staff presented a sparkler and sang "Happy Birthday" in Italian, adding a personal and celebratory flourish to the evening.
Beyond the exquisite food and service, Cenacolo offers remarkable value, making it an accessible indulgence. Our entire experience was wonderful, and we wholeheartedly intend to return to Cenacolo during our stay in Cancun. This establishment is a must-visit for those seeking a delightful Italian meal with stunning ambiance and exceptional...
Read moreCenacolo is a beautiful restaurant with amazing staff. There was never a moment I was hoping for a waiter and couldn’t find one. The ambiance was fantastic - walking through, its open kitchen style with appropriate low lighting and music. The outside patio was also wonderful, although, it may be too hot for an Italian dinner but that’s just my opinion. Now onto the food - we ordered a beef carpaccio (the one without truffles as it had sliced mushrooms… no thank you) but it was delicious and great portion size. It had lemon, olive oil, Parmesan and perfectly prepared beef. The bread basket was okay - nothing to write home about but not bad either, almost unmentionable. I’m told by my wife the Green Hats was delicious and perfectly cooked. For myself, I ordered the lasagna - this one hurts me to say but it was terrible: the presentation was excellent, the portion size was also excellent, but the flavor profile almost absolutely taste like Chef Boyardee Ravioli and the noodles were overcooked which was not what I expected based on everything else about this restaurant. I was about to write the restaurant off my list but fortunately we received the Pana Cotta for dessert and let me just say that it was one of the top Pana Cottas I’ve had in my life. I’m quite the fan of this dessert and too often I find the texture profile incorrect in many restaurants but it was executed perfectly. It held the consistency of a gelatin on the plate and spoon while also melting in my mouth on each bite. It was subtly sweet, creamy, airy, and balanced: perfect. Would I return? Sure, with this many good components, it is worth the return but I would advise chef to reconsider the Lasagna and perhaps the Bolognese sauce...
Read moreIm not even trying to be dramatic but I am italian and we are from NYC AND WE LOVE THIS RESTAURANT. This is probably one of my top favorite italian restaurants and the reason why is because everything is just so delicious.
The interior of the new restaurant ( yes they moved AGAIN ) is gorgeous, but not a big fan of the exterior. The old property was on the lagoon, gave a more private feel. Miss that place.
For apps: I love the beef tartar on the little toasts. Absolutely fantastic. Light, fresh, soft buttery melt in your mouth.
The burrata my sister and mother love, i am not crazy about those kind of dishes, but it was delicious.
The TRUFFLE prosciutto pizza. Wow. Gobsmacked- absolutely divine. This menu doesn’t have a list of the pizzas for some reason but they do have them!!!!
I got the spaghettinio made with tomato sauce in the cheese wheel, absolutely divine. I believe it could have used a touch of black pepper but they do not leave spices on the table which is okay.
My sister got the pork filled pasta in a cream sauce- also delicious but missing a crack of pepper or a zest of or juice of a lemon- felt a. Little heavy for my pallette.
My mother loves the lasagna and I understand why. It’s pillowy, feels like a cloud, you don’t have to chew it.
The mezcal drinks were good but i would stick to wine next time to be honest- that’s what they are known for lol!
Now the dessert- always you should get the chocolate souffle. Period.
The staff and service 10/10
BUT CAN YOU BRING BACK THE DAYS WHEN YOU WOULD BRING THE PLAIN PIZZA FOR THE BREAD BASKET THAT WAS SO DELIcious please tell me you remember that💖💖💖 it was brushed with olive oil and...
