Dona Yola is a hidden gem in a small shopping center across the street from the Hotel Zone. During my family's four-day stay in Cancun we found ourselves driving the additional 25mins three times just to eat here for breakfast and brunch because the food was just that great. From my picky toddler to my hard to please suegra we all had a dish that satisfied our taste buds. For a great price! (hence why we dipped the hotel breakfast buffet)
The smoothies were delicious I got the red fruits made with water and it was a 10/10. My kids kept getting the strawberry & banana smoothie all three times as for my husband he liked the agua de mango. My mother in law got the agua de pina.
My mil ordered me the Huevos Motulenos the first morning because we were supposed to split each other's plate but I never got the chance to try whatever she ordered but my plate did not disappoint. My husband got the combo yola and was able to split his pancakes with the picky toddler and we actually didn't have to fight with him on eating the Pancakes because they were very delicious and not bland as for my daughter she ordered the pancakes and couldn't finish them because it was too much for her pancakes are pretty big. 2nd trip I had ordered the combo#1 which I demolish pretty fast lol I did split my pancakes with my toddler. My husband got the same thing he ordered last time and my daughter got the chilaquilles which she was excited about she said that they were very delicious, so good that my sister in law started eating some off her plate because the portion size was too much for my daughter. 3rd time I tried something off the brunch/lunch menu that the waiter had recommended (Tampiquena) and omg the meat was so soft and tender I had to split it with my daughter and husband because it was too good to not share. My daughter ordered her chilaquiles again and my husband the same combo Yola. I requested quesadillas with ham for my son which he enjoyed able to feed more than 1 person for sure.... The food here is a 10/10 100% the prices are great especially for the portion of food you get. We will most definitely be back and cannot wait I'm already craving the red fruit smoothie!!! Everyone was kind and attentive very welcoming.

Read moreI've been known to stay mum when it comes to certain establishments for fear of them becoming too popular and crowded but dona Yola is so off the beaten path and so good...they need any help they can get... I've been coming regularly (once every year or two) to Cancun for years & I have my go-to joints when I do, but this year I wanted to try something new and different and while I haven't tried all the restaurants in Cancun, I find dona Yola is the best place I've tried so far! All the touristy restaurants and hotels food establishment have weak, watered down drinks...not so at dona...the best drinks I've had in Cancun...while u taste a little liquor initially, it hits u before you finish...they blend their drinks perfectly...we found that the passion fruit margarita had more liquor in it than the frozen drinks as it is probably mixed to order by someone with a heavy hand but their standard frozen margarita was still excellent, light & refreshing had me feeling good after one. Now the food is the quintessential Cancun fare (i.e. grilled meats, chiliquelas, etc) but each dish is executed perfectly...top it off with the habanero sauce for a delicious bang (& it is very spicy)... We tried many different items & everything was great! I have to say that the churros were the best I've ever had period... It has a thicker crispy crust with a light almost creamy center( & yes it was cooked through)... cinnamon and sugary sweetness but not too sweet...we opted for the homemade chocolate ice cream for dip &it was delicious, like a Mexican hot chocolate because it had cinnamon in it also...so good! Definitely recommend as a must try!! Dona Yola will now be my new go-to restaurant in Cancun...I just hope they succeed so I can enjoy them many more times when I...

Found this place through google reviews, sat down around 12.30 to eat, the restaurant was clean and tidy not overly busy and the staff immediately responded to our entrance.
Our waiter (sorry I didn't get his name) was happy to explain everything and offer food recommendations. as a bonus he was happy happy to help us learn a little more Spanish while he took our orders.
We had Pollo a la plancha, burritos Pollo and a café de olla (Mexican coffee with cinnamon and raw sugar) The meals were great, good sized and very quick to arrive. Our waiter made sure to check in to top up coffee and ensure we enjoyed our meals.
Couldn't be happier and...
