La probadita Mexican food — Restaurant in Cancún

We'd just gotten a couples massage & pedicures & decided to take advantage of parking & walk around. A gentleman in front of this place stopped us & asked if we were hungry. As it happens, we were so we decided to give it a shot. We'd intended on having just a snack of three tacos between us, but the first trio was so good we ordered a second. We got a shrimp, a chicken & a pork for the first trio, but the pork was so good we decided to skip the chicken for the second trio.

Very tasty & generous portions. I skipped the spicy sauce but the wife loved it. She's not much of a pork eater either, but gladly helped with both trios. Found out afterwards that we'd found one of the better street 🌮 vendors in the area. I was surprised to see the reviews, not because La Probadita doesn't deserve it, but I just didn't realize it was that well-known. In fact, the only ding I gave it was on atmosphere, because basically the location is nothing special. It's in a strip mall comprised mainly of souvenir shops and massage spas. Stopped in last night with a group of 12 people traveling from Cleveland.. Staying across the street and was told by a hotel employee that this is a perfect place to go.. He couldn’t have been more right.. The owner, who was also our waiter welcomed us with open arms and immediately put tables together so that we could be seated right away.. We started off with hand crafted cocktails and fresh made guacamole!! This was a great start to an amazing evening.. We all chose to go with different types of tacos, so we could share.. They even had vegetarian tacos for one of our guests.. Everything was made to order and was fresh and delicious!! The shrimp was cooked perfectly in a garlic butter before it was put in the tacos. The skirt steak & pork were seasoned to perfection and cooked soft and delicious.. The music was an upbeat vibe and the staff had great energy!! Everyone in our group had such an awesome time!! Please stay away, this place is in the hotel zone near Chadraui Selecto grocery store and is a scam. We asked if there was discount for local residents and was told yes, 20%. I showed my resident card before ordering. When we got the bill, there was no discount. We argued and was told the price is discounted. We saw the price is as listed on the menu and told them so. Then they came back and said the discount is only 10%, we said ok but then they said we had to pay in US dollars. We asked why and was told that’s the way it is today. We refused and said we are in Mexico and we are paying with pesos. The whole experience was unbelievable! These people are so rude! There was no one there and we were treated so badly. Food was average bar food and not worth a visit. I can just imagine how they would scam...
