Absolutely Awful Experience at Sophia Mia Cancun — Beware!
I never leave reviews, but this place was so bad I felt the need to warn others.
My partner and I arrived at Sophia Mia Cancun about 1.5 hours before closing and were immediately met with rude, annoyed stares from the staff, as if we were an inconvenience for simply showing up. Oddly enough, a group of four came in after us and didn’t get the same attitude.
We ordered two alcoholic drinks, guacamole, and the 9-piece taco platter (which was $585 MXN). It took over 30 minutes to get our food. When it finally came, the tacos were completely cold! not lukewarm, cold. We each tried one and couldn’t even finish it because of how bad and cold they were. We kindly let our server know, and she offered to remake them. We declined due to how long it had already taken.
Th assistant manager offered us a pizza instead, and we requested the Italiana pizza ( $295 MXN). About 15 minutes later, the assistant manager, Eduardo, came over and said they couldn’t serve it because the pepperoni was spoiled. I appreciated the honesty, and we agreed to switch to the Arrachera pizza (pizza that Eduardo specifically offered) just to finally get something to eat.
Meanwhile, the guacamole still hadn’t come out.
Eventually, it did, just minutes before the pizza. Both were incredibly disappointing. The pizza was hot at least, but genuinely the worst pizza I’ve had in Cancun. We barely ate two slices.
When I asked for the check, we were being charged for the cold tacos! the same cold tacos we sent back uneaten. I asked for them to be removed. Eduardo made a fuss but eventually took them off our bill. Then I noticed he charged us for the most expensive pizza on the menu instead of what we originally ordered. When I asked for that to be corrected, he said it was “too late.”
To top it off, Eduardo sent over two alcoholic drinks “on the house”. drinks we Never asked for. Both passion fruit, which my partner is allergic to. When I told him, he shrugged his shoulders and said “Okay, no problem, I’ll just dump them,” and still refused to fix our bill.
Eduardo’s service was horrible! rude, unprofessional, and unwilling to take accountability. He clearly needs retraining. The only saving grace was our server, who was sweet, attentive, and tried her best throughout the whole ordeal. Thank you to her.
As if all of that weren’t enough, I ended up getting sick from this place and had to go to a clinic.
Please check your bill carefully if you decide to eat at Sophia Mia Cancun. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.
I know mistakes happen but what ruined this place was...
Read moreThis situation happened at Sophia Mia. I went to an all-you-can-eat buffet, served myself, and the waiter only brought me a Coke with ice. The service from the waiter was great — exactly how it should be. The food was very tasty — no complaints about that.
For me, paying 570 MXN for the meal is not a problem. But when it came time to pay, a man (probably the manager) brought the payment terminal. He asked me for a 15% tip. I said, “No — 5%.” Then he asked again, “Maybe 10% at least?” I said “No” again.
Then I saw him holding the terminal and selecting a 15% tip anyway, and handed it back to me. I told him again “No tip” — and finally he set it to 570 MXN (no tip).
I was using live translation in my AirPods to understand what they were saying in Spanish. Right after I paid with no tip on the terminal, I heard him being very rude, talking badly about me to the staff.
I had already planned to give a 5% tip (about 30 MXN), and I gave 50 MXN cash directly to the waiter because he was very nice.
But the way the manager tried to force the tip — after I clearly said no — and then acted rude, was really unacceptable. If a restaurant doesn’t respect the customer or makes you feel uncomfortable when paying, why would you want...
Read moreI don’t know how this place is in business. We had a reservation for 12, weeks in advance of our actual bachelor party dinner. Our table was ready and that was literally the best part of the night. Our server clearly didn’t know how to handle a large party, and shame on management for only providing one server for such a large party. It took over 40 minutes for us to get our drink order. At that point, we should have just left. 30 minutes later we ordered food, it took almost an hour to get it, and then all the food was wrong except one person. Three orders were not only wrong but clearly forgotten about on the grill and instead of a $1300 steak, we were served $1300 beef jerky. Two of the ordered steaks weren’t only under cooked, but they were literally cold inside. Then, after three people paid and left because they couldn’t deal with the incompetence, they started to split our bill. It took over an hour to figure out, not only what we all actually ordered, but how much we all had to pay!! The worst part of this rant is that I’m leaving out so many of the details that made this three hour ordeal one that none of us will never forget. 0 star should...
