We used Taste of India for both our sangeet food stations and reception dinner food for our wedding in June 2023 at Dreams Riviera Cancun. Prior to our wedding, we did a food tasting with Chef Monse at our resort and they brought TONS of food (we literally could not eat a fraction of it!). We were able to see which options we liked and did not like as much. I will say, we liked pretty much everything but I did feel like it lacked a bit of spice and flavor during the tasting. Chef Monse was amazing at taking this feedback and he and his team delivered during the actual wedding and was beyond our expectations! Chef Monse actually will bring the ingredients to your resort and cook there so it is very fresh! For our sangeet, we did the papdi chaat station and the kathi roll station and our guests were impressed with the stations- especially the papdi chaat stations. A lot of elders that were born and raised in India could not believe that this was even an option in Cancun and were impressed with the quality of the ingredients. The setup was also very cute and fit the aesthetic we were looking for! The staff was very professional and Chef Monse did great with coordinating everything! For our reception, we had the full buffet provided by Taste of India and our guests RAVED about the food! They would pass our sweetheart table and stop to point out how amazing the food was. One of my aunts that has been to many Mexico Indian destination weddings before said it was the best food she’s ever had a wedding! Of the menu items, I have to highlight the lamb biryani, gulab jamun, hakka noodles and gobi manchurian because those items were amazing!! The food was on par with the Indian restaurants we have back in Texas even! At the end of the day, we were so happy we went with Taste of India and would highly recommend them for any occasion as Chef Monse was a pleasure to work with and very fast with communication between himself and the resort! If you are having a destination wedding and are looking to cater authentic Indian food, Taste of India will do a...
Read moreCozy place. A little bit of India. At first glance this looks like a small restaurant, but it really is two stories. You have booths and tables and single seating. On the first level there are 2 screens, one shows the news channel straight from India, and the other screen showcases musical videos (the ones with everyone doing a well choreographed and executed dance). The menu and food... It has an extensive menu with what seems a thousand options! However it is quite well organized (entrées, salads, rices, pork, lamb, chicken, beverages etc.) Personally I dislike big menus with pages and pages with loads of options (by the end of the page I forget what I read at the top, let alone if I make it to the last page) but like I said this one is well separated and has many pictures as references. I ended up ordering a lamb vindaloo, basmati rice, and potatoes with garlic Naan bread and mango Lassi for drinks. Portions are tricky! They come served in this "small" Indian casserole which seem like a tiny portion! They are not!! They can very well be shared between 2! (We even had leftovers!) Food is just delicious! Hot + Great balance of flavors spicy, sweet & salty, and the rice to chill the tongue buds!! Just excellent!!! Service is provided by actual Indian people which is awesome and they explain everything so well and are so so so kind! Over all experience is worth the price (which isn't that pricey). Location is easy to get to, right at the entrance of the hotel zone and next to some local bars (plaza de toros). Highly...

As someone who has explored Indian cuisine globally, I've had the pleasure of tasting an array of dishes that embody the rich culinary heritage of India. My experiences have not only deepened my appreciation for the flavors but also honed my understanding of what authentic Indian food should taste like. So, when I ordered Dal Makhani from Taste of India in Cancun, I was expecting a dish that lived up to the authentic standards set by countless Indian restaurants worldwide.
Unfortunately, the dish that arrived was a disappointment. Dal Makhani, a classic staple, is cherished for its creamy texture and the distinct flavor of urad dal. However, the version served by Taste of India deviated significantly from this expectation. They used brown masoor dal instead of the traditional urad dal, altering the dish's fundamental character and taste. This substitution not only detracted from the authenticity of the meal but also from my dining experience. To call it Dal Makhani was misleading, making it a shadow of the dish's true potential.
The naans, however, were a different story. They were prepared satisfactorily, providing a comforting, albeit fleeting, sense of what an authentic Indian meal could have been like at this establishment.
In the end, it was a lesson in the importance of preserving the essence of Indian culinary recipes, something I hope Taste of India will strive to achieve...
