I hate to leave bad reviews because I’ve worked in restaurants. But… yeah this one was really bad.
First, the positives: the grounds and venue are gorgeous - big beautiful garden, old-Mexico style hacienda. And plenty of parking.
The negatives: pretty much everything else.
Service: terrible. We had a couple people with food allergies who made requests and they were not honored. They had to send their food back. My partner and I didn’t have place settings at our table and we had to ask multiple times. Our group was three tables and one of the other tables was completely done eating before we even got our food.
At many restaurants I’d chalk it up to lack of experience with big groups, but this place is literally a wedding venue. They should be experts at large groups.
Food: also terrible. Our meals came with a free bowl of tortilla soup. It didn’t taste like anything and wasn’t hot.
My meal was a steak, enchilada, rice, beans and guacamole. The steak was absolutely cooked to death. Like you could barely cut it. It also somehow tasted fishy. The enchilada, like the soup, didn’t really taste like anything. Vaguely tomatoey. The rice was terrible - tasted like something from a package mix like rice-a-roni and was very wet. The guacamole didn’t taste like anything. The beans were at least edible.
Ambiance: the landscapers were there and some kind of renovation is going on during the day, during normal operating hours. The noise was super annoying.
Price: very high for the quality. The food at Los Globos market is 200x better. And 1/4 the price. Hell, the food we improvise from donations at the homeless shelter we volunteer at is better than what we paid about $500 MXN per person for here.
Overall: beautiful venue, would be a beautiful place to have a wedding. But bring your own catering...
Read moreThis little old mission is a small hotel and wonderful restaurant set on the corner of Bancarte and 10th. The Angus beef served is flavorful and tender. The staff are attentive and efficient. The outside dining area is set in a covered garden area. Tables are clean, chairs are comfortable and the bar is well tended. I had the Angus beef burger which was served with grilled slices of purple onion, bacon, cheese a thick slice of tomato and peppery greens. The meat was properly cooked and made a huge burger. The fries were made from fresh potatoes and served in a tall conical shaped holder accompanied with a small cup of ketchup. Or you can substitute fruits for the fries. Strolling around the grounds were a colorful peacock and peahen. Both friendly but skittish, they made a wonderful floor show. I recommend this lovely restaurant based on the food as...
Read moreI’ve been here many times. It's mainly a restaurant that very recently started renting out rooms as well. I was given a private tour before they were available. They are impressive. The atmosphere is incredible. It's spotlessly clean. You’re eating in the midst of a beautiful garden or inside a true 100 year old hacienda which is preserved perfectly. There are a number of "salons" aka small (and larger) banquet rooms available. Food is delicious. Service is perfect. If you're here on my weekends, there is a huge buffet! This is a hidden gem. If you're looking for that very special place for breakfast/brunch, you'd be hard pressed to find better in any country. Prices are usually under $15...with some options for about half that price. It’s a “must go”...
