If you don't want to know, you shouldn't ask.
My wife and I were excited to try this place and were pleasantly surprised at the cute rooftop setup and view. We ordered a bottle of wine and some apps. Posole and carpaccio. The appetizers were... okay. They came out very quickly (usually a plus for apps). However, I thought the hominy in the Posole was under cooked but edible and the carpaccio was just a bit underwhelming; still we were having a good time. We ordered our main dishes. My wife ordered the pasta special and I got the porkchop. Again, the food came out very fast (not always a good thing for your mains).
I was quite happy with my porkchop, but my wife's pasta was sweet... like SWEET. Like you are eating a dessert and not a white wine and cream sauce pasta. Oh well, it happens, right? WRONG! The waitress (who was very good and totally not her fault) saw that my wife had pushed it to the side and asked if she was unhappy with her meal. She simply said, the dish was sweet and that she could take it away. We were offered a replacement meal, but declined. The waitress left and a few minutes later another woman (Owner? Manager?) came up and let us know the dish would be taken off our bill (which we did not ask for or expect).
We explained we did not expect that, but again just provided the feedback that the dish was extremely sweet and suggested that perhaps they adjust the description on the special menu, to which we were informed that no one had ever said that before (which they have; given the reviews here) and then told that we had been "mean and rude" to the waitress.
Side note I have a TON of friends and family in the service industry. We would NEVER take out our disappointment in a meal on the staff.
Anyway, the owner begins to berate us (I am still mid meal) for not enjoying the pasta and refusing a replacement and then screams "actually, the ENTIRE meal is free and you can leave right now! Get out!"
Huh?! What just happened? Sorry we didn't like your dessert pasta, but can I at least get my wine to go? No? Oh, cool.
Whatever, we left 1500 pesos on the table for the meal and bottle of wine (no idea if that was too much or not enough) and bolted out the door.
They did order us a taxi back to Centro, so I guess...
Read moreWe took the recommendation from a local and made reservations not knowing what to expect. Tucked into a quiet little neighborhood, just down the street from our favorite breakfast place was this hidden gem! As we climbed the spiral staircase to the rooftop palapa, we were greeted by the chef as he stuck his head out of the kitchen welcoming us, followed by one of the waiters directing us to the rooftop. When we reached the landing it was a step into a side of the island we had not experienced in the 15 years we have been visiting. Greeted by Debbie the owner, we took our place at the bar for a pre dinner cocktail. Off to a good start, and anxious to see the menu, a local made recommendations of the Serrano Ham “wrapped” Salad with Fig and Berry Drizzle... as beautiful to look at as it tasted. The Grilled Octopus was like nothing we had ever tasted before. Seasoned to perfection. Two of our guests had the 6 ounce filet, one of us enjoyed the blackened grouper, (the fresh catch of the day) Amazing!! I enjoyed the most moist “House Porkchop” (without sharing) We promised to save room for dessert. But did not want to spoil the effect of such a beautiful meal, so we ended up indulging in one of each of the beautiful desserts by taking them, to go. Coconut Cheesecake?....Oh my! Every component of the evening from our arrival, to the graciousness of the host Debbie, to the meal, the view, and the overall ambience, made for one of the most enjoyable evenings...
Read moreso last night my friend and i went here. We got two drinks, a desert, and left a tip. Today we went back to get drinks for the happy hour they were having. While my friend was still working on her drink, I finished mine and decided to pay for the drinks and would leave a tip before we go. The owner, who is caucasian with red hair, asked us if we were American, we said yes and then she had rolled her eyes and made a face. My friend and i looked at each like, what the heck?! Then she processed to say, from across the bar, "just so you know our works make money off of tips". And we were like okay, we were just paying for the drinks we aren't leaving yet? Then she said "they expected you to get dinner last night". This not only made us feel uncomfortable and angry at the fact that she said this in front of everyone at the bar, but the worker was so embarrassed that when i tried to give him a tip he was refusing to accept it because his boss was acting like a fool. She was unprofessional with yelling it across the bar in front of other customs, making her own employee feel embarrassed, and losing customers. Now my friend and I will not be going here anymore because of the way the...
