What a charming restaurant, located within one of the most historic properties in Chapala. While dining it is easy to imagine you are there in the 1930s, with a wealthy cattle rancher and a famous poet seated at the next table debating the issues of the day. The history in the buildings and the grounds comes to life. The menu offers a wide variety of options, including vegan and gluten-free options. For those of us without dietary restrictions the menu is decadent. Don't miss mixing the cream soups. There are pepper, cilantro and broccoli cream soups. Try mixing them to make the most wonderful taste combinations. Also do not miss the specialty smoothies and the house-made ice cream. The ice cream took me back to a little gelato shop in Florence. That's how good it was. You can't go wrong eating at Chatterley's. I'd like to return, be a guest in the hotel and enjoy the ambiance of the property as a diner and a guest. You will forget which century you are living in while at...
Read moreWe decided to have a more refined dinner experience and went to Chatterley’s. The evening was lovely on the edge of the portico, and the service perfect. Attentive but not intrusive. We decided to splurge on the rib eye steak and the “baked russet potato”. When dinner was arrived, the potato was a local potato, not a russet, and it had been cooked in the microwave. The meat was a long, strung-out piece, not resembling a rib eye in the slightest. It was over-salted arrichara, perfectly fine if you have ordered and are paying for arrichara, not rib eye. Furthermore, it was way over salted. Two of us had the same reaction to the meal but did not want to say anything in front of guests. Chatterley’s, you can do better than this. If you are out of rib eyes or russet potatoes, say so. Do not think you are pulling the wool over your guests’ eyes — you are not. It will be quite a while...
Read moreChatterley's has been on our list to visit for over a year. We went on a Monday for lunch to try out the special Coconut Shrimp and Mexican cheesecake. They did not disappoint. Firstly, we were greeted warmly by the staff and led to the beautiful garden overlooking the pool. So relaxing !! Our waiter was very attentive and friendly. The Coconut Shrimp was so good. One of my pet hates about Shrimp 🍤 is the tail on, and poop line not cleaned out. BUT.... here at Chatterly's there was no tail & no poop. Yeah!! And they were huge. My husband had the beef burger which was one of the best burgers on the Lake. The Chocolate Volcano cake was ok, nothing to blow your hair back. The cake was a little dry and not much melted chocolate in the centre. The Mexican cheesecake itself was not a strong flavour, but mixed with the orange marmalade & berries...
