I don’t avoid gluten, but there’s something about this place.

I wandered in one afternoon, only looking to change a large bill, and ordered a cup of green tea figuring that would be the cheapest thing. I got to talking with Ross, the baker/chef/artist who seems to be at the heart of this place, and was struck by his sincerity and thoughtful intelligence, and the heartful passion he had for his work.

I’d intended to get out the door and on to my next thing, but something about the people there, talking and having coffee, told me I should resist that impulse and stay. One of them made a point of bringing me into the conversation and it ended up being one of those satisfying and engaging times that are so fulfilling and feel so rare.

Over the next few days, I went back a number of times to try the food, connect with people, and just be there. Every neighborhood deserves to have someplace like it, but not many seem to.

This was a fantastic experience. I am pretty sure this is amongst the best gluten free food in all of Mexico. You won't find better. The cupcakes were also incredible. We decided to take some back with us after lunch. Once we opened the box, the poor cupcakes didn't have a chance. We fled to them like a flock of seagulls. They were incredible. I'd be very surprised if you could tell that they were even gluten free. I had the lasagna and it was soooooo good. Normally I don't eat lasagna but I love mushrooms and this lasagna had mushrooms. As a person who has had to be gluten free for over a decade now - this place has The Best gluten free bagel i have had in my life, hands down. Real deal NY water bagel taste. We quite literally go there for bagels for brunch every day we are in town, they're that good. They also make great gf cookies, cakes, cupcakes, empanadas, tamales and stews. Really great loose leaf tea selection as well. Also, its just a super cute cafe, lots of art, good music, sweet cats lazing around.
