Johannes Restaurant — Restaurant in Mérida

Absolutely delicious food! Hidden gem tucked away in Santiago. We ordered a caprese salad, cauliflower tacos and the chicken breast entree. Everything tasted amazing and very fresh. Also nice selection of local yucatecan beers. I enjoyed a strawberry mojito. Beautiful view onto the hotel courtyard and pool. We will definitely be back. Perfect ambiance and very friendly staff.

UPDATED 5/1/2023: To include picture of amazing new menu addition of upgraded Cheese Plate with meats. Wonderful selection of cheeses, serrano ham, turkey, marmalade, nuts, etc. beautiful presentation. Also - LOTS of new cocktails to choose from. Food is exceptional quality along with the lovely staff. This is a must try!

UPDATED 8/1/22: to include pictures of to-go order. YES they do to-go orders via whatsapp. We got the pear & gorgonzola pizza (AMAZING) their bitterballen app and the bitterballen sandwich. All was absolutely delicious. So many amazing things to try! & they make an excellent Aperol Spritz!!

This place is supreme! The best of the best that Merida has to offer! Excellent food at unbeatable prices, fantastic atmosphere, and extremely courteous and friendly staff! Consider this review also a shout out to Mario and Rodrigo who waited on us during our very first experience at Johannes! They were the absolute best!

I took some photos of the meal that I had (see below) but there's so much more to the menu (and this place) then what you see here! Vegetarian (and vegan) options are available and the chefs will modify meals if necessary to suit your culinary appetites, tastes, and desires!

Also, event-planners take note: This place has a pool that is FREE to use when you book an event or a meal at Johannes!! I kid you not! I couldn't even believe it when I heard this and you can be sure I will be taking FULL advantage of this little factoid!

Other perks: Johannes has cooking classes and tequila tasting classes! Students can enroll for about $1400 MXN pesos or about $70 USD (in 2022) for a whole day of grocery shopping and cooking! PLUS the pool!

Honestly, it doesn't get any better than this, and I am extremely lucky/grateful to have found a place like Johannes!

Cannot recommend this place enough! Frankly, if you didn't go to Johannes, then you didn't go to Merida. Full stop.

So...

My husband and I had a great date night at this restaurant. We were surprised that it was inside of a boutique hotel, but the food was very fresh and you can peek right into their kitchen as your food is being prepared. We are pescatarian/vegetarian so sometimes it can be difficult to find menus that are not carne/meat heavy.

We ordered: To start - Garlic aoili fries, caprese salad for me, and shrimp poppers for hubby. For our main courses we had the cauliflower and fried fish tacos. The sauces were very complementary to the tacos, everything was flavorful and balanced.

Drinks: Limonadas and horchata, non-alcoholic, we don't drink much, but there was a well stocked bar available.

We didn't order dessert because we were so full. I even took part of my caprese salad home in a doggy bag.

Word to the wise: The dining seating is in a covered courtyard next to a pool, it can feel humid so bring a fan or way to stay cool. Also, wear mosquito repellant.

Pricing: Overall we paid about P900 including tip, service was great. I think the portions could have been a little bigger for the price, but the ingredients...
