Churreria General de la Republica — Restaurant in Mexico City

dont come. came here based on a travel website recommendation, also intrigued by the idea of a filled churro. unfortunately, the low rating reviews are correct. im not sure why there are such conflicting reviews. I suspect it depends on whether there is a fresh batch or not. however, if it's a 50/50 chance of getting served mediocre churros, you might as well get it off a street cart and pay less. in terms of the recipe of the churros themselves, there is nothing special here. the churros are served cold. the only positive I can say is that it didn't feel as oily as other churros I've had in Mexico... then again it might be because the churros are not fresh as opposed to freshly fried piping hot churros where the oil has not yet cooled down/ evaporated.... so maybe not a...

Tenía décadas de probar un churro recién hecho y ayer que andaba por acá y después de buscar otra churrería, tuvimos la buena fortuna de encontrarnos con la Churrería General de la República, por cierto, el nombre está genial.

Tener el privilegio de que junto con un chocolate caliente puedas morder un churro caliente, recién salido del cazo de cobre y que el azúcar esté 'derritiéndose' e invadiendo las comisuras de tu boca para enjuagarlas con un sorbo de cacao endulzado es exactamente lo del principio, un gran privilegio.

La atención es buena y mesurada. Personalmente admiro mucho esta churrería por haber sobrevivido la pandemia y por echarle muchas ganas en lo que hacen. Quien nos atendió es muy serio pero muy agradecido también. 'Infiltramos' unos tacos de canasta para comerlos ahí, (no acostumbro esa irreverencia pero se dio) y lo único que dijo de buena gana, fue: provecho.

El sabor de los churros, de verdad es muy exacto a los que recuerdo cuando era niño, el crujir con el azúcar volando y el chocolate que aquí lo tienen perfectamente medido para nivelar el azúcar de los churros con el del chocolate, si los combinas, no te vas a empalagar.

Vamos a apoyar a negocios así, pequeños, muy buenos y con ganas de seguir haciendo lo que mejor saben, su slogan dice: 'Cuéntales a todos, qué se siente echarse un churro' y personalmente les comparto que se siente abrir un baúl de nostalgia de memorias con mi padre y mi abuela.

Apoya lo local y así nos vamos todos para arriba.

A cute little place that serves up fresh made churros stuffed with your choice of filling. The restaurant is pretty small inside with mostly standing room and a few small tables. The staff is helpful and attentive and speak some English. The churros are fresh and excellent, whether plain or with filling. There is, by the way, a fair variety of fillings to chose from. Very affordable as well. Nice little stop if you feel like a snack....
