El Mundo Restaurante — Restaurant in Mexico City

El Mundo is one of the best, if not the best, vegan restaurants at which we have eaten, anywhere in the world; that includes restaurants in Vancouver (BC), Lima, Los Angeles, San Francisco, NYC, Miami, Seattle, and a few others.

The owner/chef, Rebecca, has created an amazingly unique menu; the food is exquisite, yet relatable, delicious and filling and (obviously) made with love. We ate the blue oyster mushroom sandwich that included sun-dried tomatoes, capers, and vegan mozzarella cheese on country bread, the (thin crust) pizza which included fermented cashew ricotta topped with shiitake and cremini mushrooms and drizzled with truffle oil. We finished this wonderful meal with, perhaps, the best (butterscotch) brownie we've ever eaten. It was topped with vegan vanilla ice cream and fresh raspberries with a drizzle (on the plate) of salted caramel and raspberry glaze. It was very clear that chef Rebecca uses the freshest, highest quality ingredients.

El Mundo is located inside of a 100-year old house, of the same name, that has been renovated in a way that is elegant yet simple. We enjoyed the entire experience so much that we will likely go another time before we leave Mexico City.

This review would not be complete without mentioning the members of the team, they were all welcoming, professional, friendly, and very proud of the food (and service) they provide.

My wife and I got married in CDMX on May 11th of this year. On May 10th, we held our rehearsal dinner at El Mundo. I do not have the words to adequately describe how happy we were with the experience Jafet and her team provided.

This evening exceeded all of our expectations. The food was wonderful. It was delicious and was the perfect example to show non-vegans that vegan food can meet the highest level of elegance, taste, and presentation.

The drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options, were perfectly crafted for the evening's purpose. They tasted great and contributed to building the atmosphere we were looking to build for the dinner.

But the piece that really made the evening one to remember was the service we enjoyed from Jafet, her team, and the kitchen staff. If there was an issue, they addressed quickly. Any need was anticipated perfectly.

El Mundo is a top notch place to have a full dining experience. In traveling around CDMX, I went to a number of vegan restaurants and this is by far the best. It was without question the best meal I had during my trip. The cocktails were so creative and tasty, but the thing that stands out the most was the overall experience. There was a bit of fun and magic in choosing a tarot card to decide my first drink. I got the Sun which was perfect for me that day, because I was working on a drawing of a sun. Traveling solo, I sat at the bar and the people working that night were so friendly and warm and made me feel right at home and included in the conversation. The chef/owner Rebecca is really working hard to create a special place and push forward the positive impacts of plant-based eating on environmental and human health, and do it in a way that is fun and pleasurable, in addition to being good for the world.
