Helus productos árabes — Restaurant in Mexico City

I was looking forward to visiting Helus Productos Árabes based on the pictures, and it’s clearly an established place in the Centro Histórico. The service was not particularly friendly but it was efficient.

I did find the spices I was searching for, which was a plus. However, the grape leaf appetizer was disappointing — far too salty and reheated in a microwave, leaving it with an awful texture. When I asked for a container to take leftovers, I was given one that felt outdated and unappealing (see picture).

Overall, it feels like a sad place from another era, surviving on its reputation rather than on...

Well…let’s put it this way. If you’re looking for a real Turkish coffee and pastry, this fits the bill. But if you’re looking for a really good version of either, this is a long way off. Prior travels in Turkey qualify me to say so. No, I know that’s not fair, but I can also compare to Lebanese fare I’ve had in Ecuador, the USA and London. This doesn’t measure up. En general siempre había sido un lugar agradable... pero en esta última visita no lo fue; para mi. Vine a comer como casi siempre, mi error venir en sábado cuando hay más gente. Procedí a pedir un paquete, 1/4 de tabule y una bebida, todo bien y lo comí ahí mismo, pero me corrieron del lugar por ver que solo era una persona y que tenían gente que esperaba mesa. Le pregunté a una de las chicas que atiende que si había un tiempo determinado para estar en el lugar y me respondió que había mucha gente y que lo que querían era que las personas comieran a gusto (o sea yo ya no porque ya había acabado]... es evidente que se entiende que cuando hay mucha gente uno debe ser consiederado, sin embargo el trato no fue el mejor, la señora del mostrador fue la que me pidió la mesa porque ya no iba a ordenar más, me preguntó si quería otra cosa y como dije que no me pidió que le diera la mesa. Cabe señalar que en la época donde se encontraban en el otro local pasando Pino Suárez, nunca me pasó esto. Entiendo que antes la mayoría sólo pedía su comida para llevar en el local antiguo, porque no era tan amplio y tan estético como el que ahora tienen. Pero si creo que está muy feo que te corran cuando tú también consumiste y has sido cliente constante desde 2013 cuando los conocí por ser proveedores de la cafetería donde trabajaba...
