This was a pretty good sushi place overall, and the experience was great. I had a sushi roll that was wrapped in banana because I thought, "even though this will probably be gross I have to try it". Well, I was wrong. It's delicious.

There were a few things that could be improved though in our opinion:

the ramen is the first issue. The egg is simply an unseasoned (very) hard-boiled egg, not ajitsuke tamago. The broth is pretty good. The noodles are just ok, and the toppings are a little lackluster. On the bright side, the fish was cooked absolutely perfectly, and portioned generously.

The poke unfortunately was simply too sweet and one-dimensional to finish. It badly needed some acidity or sharp vegetables to bring it back to balance.

The sushi was just mediocre, though again, I think the banana sushi was a great idea. I wish that proper soy sauce was served, as the soy-orange sauce didn't balance the flavors but instead enhance only the sweetness of the sushi, which was quite sweet to begin with (including our fish sushis).

The mochi was predicably good (I imagine everyone buys the same brand) and plated very nicely. The Hattori sake (a Mexican sake I believe) was delicious and we opted to have it cold.

The service...

I do have to disclose that this is a restaurant that belongs to my extended family but I've had the opportunity to enjoy every iteration for many years. Always excellent food, creative culinary experience and service. We love food in my family and in my culture. And Kunio San is always a wonderful delight that I have the...
