Update#1: May 15, 2023. Costco Citi card Visa reimbursed almost $30 after the business did not respond within the 45 days.
FOOD POISONING!! Group of 4 went for the very first time Sunday, March 12, 2023 about 730pm for dinner. We ordered 655 pesos worth of food. Two orders of beef, chicken and potato flatas, two orders of pollo chiliquillas, one order of pollo enchiladas, one Jugo Verde, two sodas and sopas and of course complimentary chips. Us two men ate most of the beef flatas and the women had just a little. We reasoned the beef was tainted or mishandled and that was why we got food poisoning something all 4 ate together and nothing else was shared between all 4. We had pastries earlier that day from Esperanza but we were feeling fine/normal up until our dinner. The very next day we started to fill very sick to our stomachs with diarrhea many times overnight thru Friday, Mar 17 with one man vomiting once over the days. The diarrhea continues through Wednesday, March 22 but not as severe. One of the men has seen the doctor upon our return to the US. With antibiotics he is recovering. I have been using a hot heating pad on the right side of my stomach to help subside the cramps or urge to use the toilet.
I submitted a dispute with Citibank for not the total $35.37 (655 pesos) but $29.89 (553 pesos). The waiter provided excellent service and his English was very good and it wasn't his fault. Owners if you are reading this, please approve my credit card dispute of 553 pesos. Tried calling while we were there but when I asked "habla Ingles"...
Read moreThis was described to me by a local friend as the "McDonald's of Mexico," meaning it's somewhat equivalent to a fast food chain in CDMX.
I stopped by here three separate times, trying to eat my way through the menu. 99% of the dishes I tried were excellent.
One thing that really blew my mind were the deep fried quesadillas. They come out piping hot, and sorta look like a puff pastry hot pocket. There's at least 13 individual types of fillings, all of which were extremely tasty (except for the ground beef -it just hit different than "traditional" american-based seasoning).
Pro-tip: You can also add cheese ("con queso") to any of them -or just order a plain cheese quesadilla, which in my opinion was one of the best things I ate here. I believe it was oaxacan cheese, as it had a mozzarella like texture and had that ooey-gooey drip, when pulled apart.
The tacos were kind of mid -I suggest going somewhere that specializes in tacos -if you just want tacos.
All their hot sauces were spicy AF, there's at least five different types they bring to the table.
Ps: A review below recommended the pazole -i tried it and it was not very appetizing. Pretty much everything else I tried on the menu was spot-on delicious -but I thought the pazole was gross and I didn't even finish a...
Read moreAt the recommendation of a tour guide, we tried La Casa de Toño, for a taste of Mexican fast food. It was good!
There was a wait to get in, but it only took about 10 minutes. The hostess was on her game, ear piece in, and moving people through the queue as fast as she could.
Having never been here before, it was an experience. Fast paced. Write your order down on a card and pass it off the wait staff. Mi Español is muy mal, but it was totally doable (and fun) to figure it out.
I had the flautas. My spouse the quesadillas. I ordered based on the pictures; she ordered based on the name. The flautas were definitely the better choice, as the quesadillas didn't come with any dressing (lettuce, cream, etc.) and were thus pretty dry.
Oh, and all of this stuff we ate was deep fried. Because it wouldn't be fast-food-like without dropping it all in bubbling oil!
Service was great, food was good, and we'd go back (though my wife said she would try the tacos next time -- and choose based on...
