The beer here is delicious, and if I ever return, may be the only thing I ever get. My husband ordered the sardine special. I think sardines are gross, but he adores them and loves oily, funky fish. Well, he got three of them with this special and was initially delighted. He ate the first two happily…then started on the third and spat his mouthful out. He said it tasted rotten, and showed me the texture of this third fish. It was mealy and mushy, unlike the other three. It looked like it had gone off.
I understand that stuff like that happens, and we let the bartender know without any drama. We weren’t looking for anything free, or anything extra—just that they should watch out. She took it back to the kitchen.
About 10 minutes later, a manager came to talk to us to say he had looked at the fish, that it looked fine, and that he had even taken a taste of it and that it was okay. Now, I trust my husband, who says it was utterly foul and off. But I especially trust him now because he has been vomiting and sick since then and it’s just awful. The bartenders and servers are lovely. The environment is great. But I don’t trust anything coming out of their kitchen now as far as I can throw it—and I’m not a very good pitcher at all.
Tl;dr: Great atmosphere, great waitstaff and bartenders, but rotten food and weirdly dismissive and infantilizing treatment by the manager when we weren’t even trying to make a thing of it. Drink here, but...
Read moreLagerbar Reminds me a lot of the breweries I enjoyed visiting in the states. Casual, always likely to have a table open, and good vibes. This place fits that description perfectly. I do have 2 complaints with Lagerbar, however.
1: Cervezaria hercules has so many different types of beers, why does this place only have German style beers on tap?? Where are the saisons and the hazy ipas? I want more variety in their offering.
2: THE FOOD ALWAYS COMES OUT COLD. I always have to ask for them to make sure to really heat up the food. The sausages in the curry wurst come out just tepid, they should come out steaming. Even if they do heat it up, the food sits out at the ready counter for minutes before it's sent to the table. Yesterday I was sitting close to the kitchen and I watched 4 steaks sit out for at least 7 minutes (yes, I counted) before being sent to the corresponding table.
A few tweaks and this place would be a regular...
Read moreGreat place for grabbing a beer. Being a kinda small place, compared to the Hercules places in Querétaro, it still packs some fun. The service is awesome, the food is unfortunately just average. I got the guacamole with tostones and it did not have salt, and given the previous visits to the Querétaro place I expected freshly made tostones and a fuller flavour. Same with the rabas, which were clearly pre-cooked :( I'm probably going back soon but to the store located s few blocks away. I can have the same quality of food at home but...
