I am disappointed with the food. Not so sure what they are trying to accomplish with the mix of flavors but they are very adventurous I must say. That being said, it was not what I expected. I don't like to give a bad review to a place so close to my house, it makes me a bad neighbor but I was very disappointed with my lunch at Fonda Mayora. I heard good things about the place and finally decided to pull the plunge and go.

We started with Agua del Día, it was watered down and plus the ice, well, you get the idea.

Presentation was nice, we started with a guacamole and dehydrated cecina, lack of salt and flavor, honestly it was a Pico de Gallo and avocado, didn't even look like a real guacamole. I had a beef Tongue, was cold, hard and didn't have any flavor, I thought the sauce that it was soaked in would give a nice kick, but it didn't. I have to say the Cilantro leaves that garnished the plate had more flavor than the plate itself.

My Fiancée had a Duck with a special Chiles secos sauce and it was overcooked and hard, he didn't finish his plate. My sister had a sope of Suadero and it was inedible because it was really salty. I am giving them 1 star because the Location, the courteous service and the tortillas (this was the only good thing about the lunch). I believe this place is overrated...

Food was pretty good and the menu is interesting with enough options for everyone. The waiting service was good until it was time to pay. I had a big party of costumers eating with me, 12 in total and I had been there before so I knew I could pay with Amex, but they came back to tell me my card was declined which seemed extremely odd since I had just used it that morning. I asked my colleague to pay for me and same thing happened. They had me call Amex just to find out there was nothint wrong with my card. All this while the other waiters asked a few people from my table if they could pay instead of me, preferably with a different card. So they tried to coerce me into paying with a different card but we didn't budge so at the end, magically they pulled out a different terminal and made it work. End result they made me lose face in front of my guests and wait 20mins until it was resolved. Not cool. Not...

Went there for dinner, wasn't expecting to leave without finishing anything we ordered. The staff was friendly enough and the room was nicely decorated but the food was all pretty bad. We should've gotten the hint from the stale chips they served to start, but we ordered the piglet tacos, cactus pad salad, chicken soup, and the smoked fish. The piglet tacos were super mediocre but probably the best dish. The cactus pad salad was also fairly mediocre and perhaps only because of personal taste. The chicken soup was too salty, but that doesn't even begin to compare to the smoked fish. The smoked fish akin to consuming a soft block of salt. I had a cold coming here, and I know smoked fish should be a little saltier due to the preparation but this particular one caused my runny nose to stop. Returned the fish, they gave us dessert and tried to charge the fish, we...

Cool little spot in the Condesa. I ordered the tostado de ceviche and albóndigas con chicharrón. The albóndigas were really very tasty, only served with 2 tortillas, I'm not really a big eater, but I think it should come with 3 or 4 tortillas, the tortillas were excellent however. The tostado de ceviche was really heavy with lime, I get that the fish is macerated with lime juice , but all I could taste was lime. Price was reasonable for the neighborhood and quality.

Without a doubt a great Mexican restaurant with a contemporary touch. Food is great but not fantastic as expected from Gerardo, the restaurant creator and chef. Most items in the menu are spicy so if you don’t eat spicy food your choices are limited. The place gets busy and crowded and the expected dish presentation gets lost because of the clientele volume. I’m sure that there is room for improvement and that the chef will take note. I will come back, though.
