CDMX Eats 2024 #54, Japanese #2: we had walked by this location of Daikoku and were in the mood for sushi, so we decided to give it a try.
The sushi was above-average and fairly priced, but I would recommend Izakaya Kura if you were looking for a better sushi/Japanese dining experience.
What we ordered: sake de la casa ($132), sushi ume (8 pzas, $196), yuzu rollo ($189), salmon landin ($193).
The sake wasn't bad and was definitely better than what I was expecting. It was served with tiny glasses, which made us feel like we actually got a lot of sake.
The sushi ume was good value as most a la carte nigiri is ~$40. While not every piece was great/memorable, I really enjoyed the maguro ($42/pz a la carte).
Of the two rolls we ordered, I strongly prefered the yuzu roll. It came with avocado, cucumber and kanikama (imitation crab/crab stick) on the inside and salmon, tuna or chutoro on top. Each piece was also topped with yuzu and fried garlic. This was super tasty, and for

I don’t usually take the time to complain directly to management regarding bad service, but the horrible attention received at your Condesa location on Nuevo León street really merits it. My parents and I arrived at Daikoku on Nuevo León and took a table outside because I had my dog with me. I noticed other patrons had dogs with them and were also sitting outside. I didn’t see a problem with this. The waiter arrived a few minutes later and literally THREW the menus on the table without saying hello or giving any type of greeting. Instead he said something like, “oh, you are here!” and looked angry. I asked him if there was an issue and as he walked away he said, I’ll bring you the service. Of course that was enough for me to not want to be a patron of the restaurant although I am staying in the building directly across the street! Someone should inform the staff that patrons have plenty of dining choices and they should be more considerate when waiting on individuals. I feel awful that my parents have to put up with that type of rudeness!!! If it was just me I wouldn’t care but I care when it comes to my parents. I wonder how many other patrons your business has lost due to one rude waiter….I didn’t catch his name but I did speak briefly with the manager about the situation. This happened on Saturday, April 27th between 7pm...
Read moreDaikoku left me feeling disappointed, especially given the rave reviews and the promising ambiance of the restaurant. Despite the authentic appearance, my experience fell short, particularly with the service. During a late lunch visit, the overall atmosphere felt dull, with few customers in sight. Our waiter seemed disinterested and took an eternity to attend to us. The food presentation was passable, except for one dish that looked like a child decorated the plate. While the dishes were okay, they failed to leave a lasting impression. However, what really truly ruined the experience was the slow service, which prolonged our stay. From trying to get the bill to paying, every step felt like a test of patience. Overall, Daikoku provided a forgettable Japanese dining experience, and I wouldn't come back...
