We tried the chicken tikka masala and Lamb Balti, and the flavors and spices were non-existent. I asked the waiter if he could add some spices, and he was super helpful but the food was still too bland for 3 people from different countries in Europe. I’m used to Indian food in Stockholm as we have been immersed in Indian cuisine, I was expecting a tangy spicy balti and chicken tikka but I could not even feel the Garam Masala, it was just a plain basic cream sauce with very dry (almost like it had been pre-made hours before since all the garlic was dried out and the bread was super hard to eat) The disappointing and flavorless Naan bread wrapped this experience up.
The service and environment was 10/10 but the food was low quality when it comes to authenticity, so I can guarantee you will be disappointed if you are from a country with high standard Indian cuisine. They should definitely increase their quality and authenticity considering their label as an Indian restaurant, as well considering they are a more expensive high profile...
Read moreEl Tandoor has been a fixture in Polanco for many decades. I have been eating there for the past quarter of a century. A few years ago, they opened a branch in San Angel (near Plaza Inn) just before the Covid pandemic hit. Talk about bad luck! The good news is that they survived. They have several branches now in Mexico City run by a lovely Karachi (originally from Delhi) Mohajir family.
I have not been to this branch in San Angel before. Late in 2023, I gave it a try. The first try was with Chicken Biryani. The second time I went, I had Chicken Biryani. The third time was Chicken Biryani. Now you see where I am going with this. I liked their Chicken Biryani. One suggestion: Do not ask for it to be hot unless you are really a hardy soul.
This place had atmosphere - complete with live sitar recital (as you will see in the accompanying photo.
This place has all three things going: Location, check. Ambiance, check....
Read moreI had a wonderful dining experience at Tandoori San Ángel. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with attentive service that makes you feel taken care of from the moment you sit down.
I tried the Muragh Malai and the Pakistani Mutton (Balti Gosht), and both dishes were excellent. The Muragh Malai stood out with its creamy, perfectly spiced sauce that balanced richness with just the right hint of heat—comforting and flavorful without being overwhelming. The Pakistani Mutton was equally impressive: tender, slow-cooked meat infused with deep spices, offering an authentic taste of South Asia. It paired beautifully with the fresh naan, which came hot and fluffy straight from the tandoor.
Overall, Tandoori San Ángel offers some of the best Indian/Pakistani cuisine in the city. Whether you’re already a fan of these flavors or looking to try something new, it’s a place worth visiting...
