This unique CDMX Bistro, Bar and Speakeasy, nestled in the charming and peaceful neighborhood of Roma Norte/Condesa just minutes to downtown Ciudad Mexico’s Zocalo is fun and amazing to say the least. This eatery gives you outstanding upscale service and fabulous cuisine at incredibly super moderate prices! The staff is incredibly attentive, cordial and very open to tourists, unfamiliar with the intrinsic aesthetic and food culture of the community and the styles of food offered of different traditional styles. The uniqueness becomes obvious when one realizes this is an establishment that can cater to morning breakfast, Lunches or Meriendas, Dinner or Supper, Happy Hour, or Late-Night jaunt with music and spirits. It offers an extensive outdoor patio dining area, a very large indoor first floor dining area, an upstairs bar and restaurant, and the third floor even has a Speakeasy! There is a bit of everything for everyone, like us who had lunch, then came back another evening for a lively Nightcap! They offer an extensive range of traditional and local offerings. My initial visit was my first ever try ever eating Atta Mexicana (fried ants), and they were really crunchy and good! Our meals included: A wonderful rendition of their Guacamole with home-made chips, Mezcalita Pina Tatec, the Ladies all had the scrumptious Enmoladas (Muddled) de Pollo (Chicken) covered in fabulous sauce, and I had an incredibly huge, wonderfully tender, and perfectly seasoned, fall off the bone, pork shank (huge). The desert was a fiery Plátanos (Bananas) flambé prepared right before our eyes (please see my pics)! Mexico City does not lack any shortage of eating places, but if you’re in this vicinity, give it a shot for any meal of the day or night. Next time we’re in CDMX, this will be a must stop for us! Buen...
Read moreSometimes you catch a shooting star. For reasons all too known and then some not places like TR3S run incognito juxtaposed to the volume taquerias and then lost in the array of occasionally lovely traditional street kiosks on offer in CDMX. B- lining to Expendio de Maiz only a stones throw from TR3S we stumbled on this beautiful building we had admired before that this time was open for business so in we went for lunch numero 3. Cards are stacked pretty high against the house when on lunch 2 much less 3 but boy did TR3S deliver. The food is extremely flavorful and free of gimmickry and to this gringo with experience a straight rootsy play. There is a mother at the helm in the kitchen and her heart sings in the product - her touch is immediate, transparent, and unmistakable and the physical plant is magical - no more sidewalk delights sans appropriate beverage, etc. - have a cushioned seat...
Read moreWe chose this place and are so glad we did. In walking up to the restaurant on Tonala street, it is not that interesting. Turn the corner, and we were able to sit outside along Plaza Edith Sanchez. Their cocktail menu is super interesting and I enjoyed the Mezcal Tonic...twice. From the menu, my wife and I shared the Black Bean Soup (It is incredible....sounds boring, but the spices and balance are amazing). We also shared the Roasted Cauliflower, and it comes in a small cast iron pan with a fabulous sauce. So good. Lastly, we had the Pescado Veracruz. Cooked to perfection and the butter rice was really delicious as well. It appears as if the dish may be dry upon arrival. Once you see how moist and flavorful the fish was and also the consistency of the rice, you will be amazed. A great experience and our server was so kind and...
