This place came highly recommended by multiple folks. We decided to try it and were not disappointed. The food was very flavorful and had a slight twist from what I was expecting. The corn tortillas ( to which I am usually indifferent) were to die for. I was observing a lady whose sole job, it seemed, was to make those tortillas from scratch. The texture was more silky and dough slightly stretchy. With an amazing aroma and an aftertaste. If you asked me what was the most memorable to me- I'd say those tortillas. However, all of the food was great. The first time we went, I ordered a molcajete. I expected a tomato based dish, but I was wrong. It was light color and had a slice of pineapple cooking in the pot and being a perfect complement and finish to the meal. My husband ordered a plate of tacos with tuna. It turned out to be not raw ( which was plainly stating in the venue, but I missed it) but had a wonderful flavor. It was the first time I had Mexican food and had no heartburn afterward. When we came the second time, we had a plate of shrimp tacos, which were also surprisingly different. Also, fantastic taste. And we had a young gentleman, Mauricio Andrade, striking up a conversation with us. He turned up to be a magician and did some close-up magic tricks that made our experience very special. It seems like he is there Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. I highly recommend it.
Also- if you are having fun at Vallarta Adventures in the area- it is very close by walking. On the other hand, if you are staying at Vidanta Nayarit Mayan Palace, do not walk there in the middle of the day by sand( at least when it is hot). Take a cab. The sand does not have a paved walkway. We went when it was very hot. Although Google said it was 600- 800 feet away, walking there was a nightmare. We attempted twice, but never made it. Take a cab for 10 bucks each way. It will take you longer - like 15 min drive, BTW, there is an OXXO next door, and you can pick a couple of essentials and the taxi point is right there across the street, so there is usually a few drivers ready to take you in a white cab (...
Read moreOur very first night in Nuevo Vallarta, we decided to have dinner at El Barracuda. The food and service were excellent, so we went the next night! And as soon as we entered the establishment, we were greeted like old friends! Our waiter (Jesus) from the previous night came over to shake our hands and greet us and the manager (whose name has unfortunately escaped me) served our meal and was wonderful. A couple nights later we came back and again were greeted like old friends. Nacho was our server and we had such a great time talking to him, my husband bought him a shot after his shift and he sat and we conversed for quite a while. By the way, Nacho has the most infectious laugh! A couple nights later we had our final meal at El Barracuda and of course, were greeted like old friends and served a fantastic meal, accompanied by great conversation. Fernando, who is working 3 jobs so that he can send his daughters oversees to broaden their horizons, was fantastic to talk to. He made a huge impression on me and I wish I could have sat and talked with him for hours. It's kind of weird that I miss that place so much already. But, that is how great the place is. It wouldn't be the amazing experience without the people working there. Every single person was warm, kind and pleasant. From the people who work behind the bar, to the people dropping off your food, they really were fantastic. Oh, and the atmosphere is GREAT! The music is always exactly right and the ambiance is one of both easy-breezy and a little lively. It was exactly the right atmosphere for my husband and I every visit. Thanks to everyone at El Barracuda, if we are ever to visit again, this will be our...
Read moreWe are staying at the Sea Garden Hotel in Nuevo Vallarta & stumbled upon this place while on a walk around the area. It’s less than a 5 minute walk to get there. We looked over the menu & decided to give it a try. Wow! We were pleasantly surprised by how good the food and drinks were at this restaurant along with the wonderful experience we had! Our waiter, Fernando, was incredible! He took such great care of us & made wonderful suggestions! Upon sitting, we immediately got delicious chips with a nice variety of salsas. The Beach Sangrias are delicious & filled with a wonderful variety of fresh fruit! He recommended the Chopped Salad which contained a surprising variety of veggies such as avocado, hearts of palm & artichokes. It was a nice start to our meal. My husband had the Seafood Casserole which he said had such a delicious flavor and sauce. I’m a vegetarian & on Fernando’s recommendation I ordered the Veggie Burger which was the last thing I’d planned to get in a Mexican Restaurant, yet it turned out to be one of the most delicious dishes I’ve eaten on this trip & one of the most delicious veggie burgers I’ve ever had! We topped off our meal with a nice slice of Flan and a cappuccino. We were so impressed by everything at this fun & welcoming outdoor restaurant that we want to come back again on our one week...
