My wonderful husband brought me here to celebrate our anniversary and we rarely ever do fancy things so this was a change for us. We are usually budget travelers and pack very light when we travel so not knowing that he had made reservations at a nice place like this, we were probably the most underdressed people here that night with our comfortable Converses.
From the moment we walked in, the staff was so attentive to our needs. We must have had 5 servers wait on us the entire time! We ordered a bottle of red wine from the Mexican wine country to go with our meal. We were trying to decide whether to order from the daily set menu ($30/pp) or the tasting menu ($68/pp) and decided to splurge because of the special occasion!
The tasting menu included 8 courses (see picture of the menu) and everything from the snack at the beginning to the petit fours at the end was absolutely delicious. I don't think I have ever had such an amazing meal in my life! The weirdest dish for me was the white asparagus escamole, which I did not know was ant larvae until we were done with it! I thought it was oatmeal so I looked it up. Luckily, I didnt get gross out by it, we just had a good laugh about it. The best main course dish was the cabrito (baby goat) which was so tender and juicy! Our dessert was the chocolate cake with beet ice cream and goat cheese cream which was my husband's favorite.
Our entire meal after taxes and tips ended up to be about $200 USD which I thought was absolutely worth it and would have been a lot more in the states!
The restaurant is super clean and upscale with a beautiful outdoor dining area. Because this is located in the affluent part of Monterrey in San Pedro Garza Garcia, the clientele here shows it.
I highly recommend dining here when visiting in Monterrey, it's a...
Read moreDecided to attend PANGEA while on vacation to Monterrey, voted as one of the city's best restaurants and even withing the list of top restaurants of Mexico. Upon arrival service was good, it took about 10 minutes to get the food menu, and the place wasn't crowded at all. We order a flatbread with burrata and peach, cream of tomato, lamb and the only vegetarian plate they offered (which looked like a veggie patty). The flatbread was excellent very tasty, never had tried something like it, the tomato cream was decent, condiments overtook the flavor of the tomato, at this point everything was OK, my night took a turn when we got our main entrees, the lamb was good it had a very excellent flavor, what failed was the sauce that was accompanied by, very bittersweet it ruined completely the taste of the lamb. This plate was consider as the suggestion of the chef, I expected something more than what I actually got. The vegetarian dish was very well presented, literally a veggie burger with out the bun, the flavor was very very spicy, something that wasn't expected since in the menu it said it in fact contained peppers but this could be easily be taken away of the dish, what was spicy where the condiment that where put inside of the pattie, still on debate if it was ginger or turmeric, it was so spicy that it even burned my throat. At the end the dish had to he taken back. I really expected some great food out of this place but unfortunately it's just another restaurant that the looks and ambiance count more...
Read moreI’m traveling through Mexico for more than a. Year now. And have another 6 months. Pangea was my last meal out in Monterrey and I was blown away. I’m a retired chef. From California. I don’t like anything. Tonight it’s 10 days after the best lunch I’ve had in ages, at Pangea. It’s world class. They understand the details of international service Like no where I’ve ever been. Except maybe french Laundry/per se. I was given a menu in English and my companion in Spanish-though unnecessary it was soooo thoughtful. One of the headwaiters .... seemingly hung around To make sure I would understand the Spanish before leaving our lovely server to care for us. And this is noting that my date was a local. The beef tartare was by far the best flavored beef I’ve had since Northern California ,grass-fed, yada yada, and was NOT overwhelmed by the garnishes , but perfectly Complemented . The tomato soup was delightful and the presentation made It Special. My duck entree was perfectly seasoned, perfectly cooked -meaty and flavorful. The garnishes were lovely and nothing overpowered the luscuios duck. The fig and goat cheese salad ( a California-Italian staple) was really good. From me that’s saying a lot. I’m in another city sitting plotting my Return to Monterrey :-). And begrudging that Pangea wasnt my first stop! so I could’ve returned there a few moreTimes. GO! ...
