What a beautiful transformation over the last few years of this art gallery-restaurant. A true pride of Oaxaca. It is our third visit to this lovely place and every time it has been a joy. Their new concept has the potential to go to world class heights. My wife and friend from California Miss Wendy, who is a “foodie” at heart, loved the friendly service, the knock out presentation of food (kudos to the artful ceramic dish ware! ), and specially the drinks. That Cafe de Olla was exquisite. Having worked for the hospitality and restaurant business, I can’t help but to hone in on some items that recommend need improvement: 1-The English Menu part requires editing: The lovely host Elizabeth explained that the menu had just been posted “online” for dine in guests to download on their phone for COVID reasons - an opportunity to also commend them for their hygiene measures-yet the menu had a few misspellings: 1-It’s Coffee not Caffee 2- Heading for Lunch items should be Lunch not Lunches 3- The work “jerky” was repeated twice side by side in a menu description. Which by the way personally translating Cecina to Jerky is an offense to our Oaxacan cuisine. Cecina is hot and tender, Jerky is cold and chewy hard. 4- The menu items’ descriptors need a bit more thinking. My wife and I, who are Mexican born, were able to “understand “ the meaning or intention, but our friend, who was her first time in Oaxaca felt a bit confused about some explanation of the dishes. We gladly explained and she was delighted with her food choices.
Anyway, beside the menu faux paux, which held me from giving it a 5 star rating, all other and most important elements of Tizne were SUPERB!!! Thank you for a great experience. Our friend, Miss Wendy, ended giving us two bowls (just like the ones they served the Café de Olla- which we are thrilled to have in our home now) and bought many items including a gorgeous Armadillo directly from Jacobo and Maria Ángeles gallery in San Martin Tilcajete. Best wishes and we look forward to returning.

The food was good. The aguachilles were good, but there was one or two shrimp that had a taste I didn't like. My husband l liked them. They do not have any chile.
The salmon risotto was good. It cane with veggies and bread. The salmon had a good taste, and the skin was on the side like a chicharrón and was delicious. The salmon was overcooked for my taste, not dry, but had a strong salmon taste.
The staff is kind and friendly but not very attentive. They are quick when you ask for things, but you have to ask for them. We did go at the end of the day, so maybe they were just tired?
The place itself is beautiful, there are a lot of plants so there are mosquitoes. They are also connected to an art exhibit, which was...
Read moreI wouldn't bring someone here to try any Mexican dish. I tried "pollo estofado" and brought it incomplete (supposedly it has sweet potato and plantain chips, but after I remind them later they brought me fried soft plantain). The piece of the chicken was really sad, maybe gone in 3 bites (not worth the price, almost 15USD that is expensive in Mexican standards). The tortillas were really bad and told me it was because I let them cold... Nop, I couldn't even guess if they were soft tortillas or tostadas... Hard around and chewy in the middle. The temperature of the food was not even warm and the chicken was just cook with no technique. I Was hungry and decided not to ask for anything else. Bad choice. The place is nice...
