We’ve been travelling around South and Central America for 10 weeks across 6 different countries, and Grana B&B is - without question - the best place we’ve stayed at. I cannot imagine why this place is only showing as a 3-star hotel - it’a FAR better than that, even if it doesn’t have all the physical facilities of a 5-star hotel. We have spoken on an off about Grana at length since we left, and honestly I cannot think of one single thing I would change about it - it is perfect.
Location - right in the middle of central Oaxaca; it can’t get any better.
Service - the best we have had. It is flawless. Emma & Bruno were particularly good as receptionists / concierges / general fixers / waiters - nothing was ever too much trouble, and they were so friendly. We couldn’t have felt better taken care of. Everyone else - the maintenance staff, cleaners, cooks - are also brilliant, and all over everything. In 6 nights we didn’t even notice so much as an empty coffee jar!
Rooms & facilities - beautiful, perfectly kept, authentic, and not a hair out of place. We stayed in a standard suite, the master suite and the loft suite and all of them were magnificent. Comfortable beds, spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated. AC, fans, candles, laundry bags, and brilliant showers. Morning yoga was lovely on the roof, as was the evening bar. Such a relaxing space. And the famous courtyard and breakfast room is as beautiful as it looks in the pictures.
Breakfast - again, epic. From a perfect continental buffet to brilliant Mexican and Western cook-to-order options. All included within the price.
Value - all-in the best value of our trip. Not the most expensive by far, not the cheapest by far, but certainly the best overall bang for your buck.
We can’t wait...
Read moreThis was our first trip to Oaxaca, and we found Grana B&B through our own research. What a find. They are right in the center of Centro, within walking distance to dozens of exceptional restaurants, museums, craft stores, markets, street food, and many historic sites and churches. Our room was on the 2nd floor with a balcony on two sides, giving us a view of the street activity below. The room was large and comfortable with a very comfortable King-sized bed. If we were ever unsure of where we would spend the day or have dinner, the friendly and well-informed staff was always there to help with suggestions or to assist in making arrangements. Thanks to their advice, we discovered several restaurants that we would have otherwise missed. The Breakfast part of this "Bed and Breakfast" is unbelievable. Beyond the normal assortments of coffee, espresso, fresh squeezed juice, every morning also offered fresh pastries, bowls of fresh fruits too many to mention here, and choices of eggs, avocado toast, juevos rancheros, chilaquiles, tamales and .... well, you'll just have to go to experience the variety and quality yourself. The rooftop deck was a great option for pre-dinner for a cocktail and view of the surrounding mountains, but the thing about Grana B&B that was singularly exceptional for us was their staff. The room was tended to as you might expect at a five-star hotel, with nightly turn-downs and quiet, unintrusive cleaning and service. The front desk team was bi-lingual and very well informed about happenings in the city and sites to visit. Even though there are many wonderful options for hotels in Oaxaca, we have found a home away from home and our next visit to Oaxaca will be grounded at Grana B&B. Thank you for your...
Read moreWhen planning my trip to Oaxaca, I kept seeing pictures of this BEAUTIFUL rustic kitchen with a giant traditional comal at the front - and it led me to booking Grana B&B. It was so perfect. I loved the bustling location (right near the Templo de Santo Domingo de Guzman and botanical gardens, walking distance to excellent restaurants) but felt so intimate and luxurious within. Everything is carefully decorated, understated, and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious. I LOVE a nighttime turn-down service and was pleasantly surprised to find it here, it adds such a touch of luxury!||Most importantly, however, the staff was extremely supportive at a crucial moment. While on a walk exploring the city, I was clumsy and banged my head on a windowsill that was jutting out into the sidewalk. With the assistance of a random passerby who saw the event and happened to be a doctor, I stumbled back into Grana's lobby, sobbing and bleeding all over my face from a small cut in my scalp. The staff sprung into action, grabbing basic medical supplies, water for me, and a chair, as they assisted this Good Samaritan while he evaluated me and bandaged me up. The staff continued to check in on me throughout my stay and I ended up being just fine without needing further medical attention and I had a wonderful trip, thank goodness. But I was so touched by their professionalism and compassion. I can't wait to return to Oaxaca and when I do, I'm...
