I don't normally post reviews, but I got food poisoning from my meal here, so if my writing saves one person from having a similar experience I'll be happy.
My daughter and I had a late lunch here on our last day in Oaxaca, and I got food poisoning from the experience. We were both starving, and since this restaurant was very close to our AirBnB I thought that we would stop in. We had walked by many times and it looked pleasant.
I ordered soup and a tlayuda, she ordered a kid's meal with a breaded fried cutlet and french fries, and we got some sparkling water. When the sparkling water came, the waitress served it, and I discovered that there was dirt in my glass. We should have left at that point, but we didn't (Mistake #1) as - after some prodding - the server came back with a new glass and a new bottle, and, as I mentioned we were very hungry.
We waited a long time for our food, which was odd, because there were few patrons in the restaurant. I had been very hungry when I arrived, and was more hungry when the plates made it to our table, so I didn't pay close attention to my food when it arrived (Mistake #2). Although the soup was fine the tlayuda was strange: the cheese wasn't melted and the tasajo tasted odd. My daughter's meal arrived, and the french fries were lukewarm in the center. Perhaps everything had been reheated?
Despite the stylishness of the restaurant, the service was indifferent throughout the meal. No one cared about our experience. A manager in her kiosk on south wall didn't look at anyone or interact with her staff the entire time were were in the restaurant. While we were eating a janitor had been cleaning the restaurant floor. He worked his way over to our table and actually hit our shoes with his mop while cleaning around us, as we sat and ate.
We paid our bill - which wasn't small by the standards of Oaxaca - and left. Later that evening I began to suffer the consequences of visiting Del Jardin Café. The food poisoning only lasted 24 hours, so I suppose that it could have been worse, but it was not the ending to our vacation that I had been hoping for.
So, despite the restaurant's convenient location and nice atmosphere, I would strongly recommend that you find another option. We visited so many excellent restaurants during our vacation in Oaxaca, but this isn't...
Read moreNice looking place, conveniently located for me. Nothing wrong with the food, but the service was maddeningly slow. I know I'm on Mexican time, and that most restaurants are having a hard time keeping fully staffed. So just FYI, it took 20 minutes for a cocktail I didn't order to arrive, then a bit longer for the right one, and even longer for the food. Including 15 minutes for the check after I requested it. I'd allowed an hour for a nice, relaxed meal, and was stuck there for 2 1/4 hours. I won't go...
Read moreWe came here a a last chance option as everywhere local was closed on New Year’s Day, but it turned out to be such a good spot! Everything except the tlayuna was delicious - was very crispy, strange choices of meat and the cheese not melted. Highly recommended the enmoladas with chicken and the chicken fajitas also great! Loved the veg pickles and nuts to start and topped off with a live band right in front of us. Amazing! Very reasonably priced too -...
