A 3* review is being generous... This was easily the worst meal I had in Oaxaca. If you look at my other reviews you see I'm not super harsh, but this place was not good.
The salad was fine, but I'm not sure if it is a Oaxaca City thing, but everytime I order a salad or appetizer it comes out with or after my meal. What is with that? I get the salad to fill up so not to overindulge on my meal. I will specify moving forward cause this could be cultural, so my fault not the restaurants fault.
The steak had to be the lowest grade quality. It was cooked probably, I can say that. The mushrooms/onion sause that accompanied the steak tasted like canned soup in green bean casserole. The chimichurri tasted like cheap store bought. The "garlic sauce" tasted like ranch dressing with garlic powder added.
The potatoes that accompanied the steak were actually good. Potatoe salad like, but nice.
Don't get me wrong I did eat my food because I was already paying for it and it was eatable but as someone that doesn't cook I could have made this 100 times better.
Never saw the waiter again after I order the food (someone else brought it out). I had to hunt him down for the check.
They did have some nice live music.
Sidenote (didn't impact my rating) My table was so wobbly that I was scared everytime I touched it. The server tried to fit it but it barley made a dent (I should have moved). And the second I went to cut my food my mediocre sangria, spilled everywhere.
This part did impact my service rating...I cleaned the table with napkins. I explained what happened to gentleman that brought out my food. Nobody ever wiped the table (just sat at a stick table with a sticky floor the rest of the time) and no one every asked if I wanted to order another...
Read moreWow great food & service! We’ve been here for 3 days in el Centro trying all the authentic traditional food Oaxaca has to offer. When my family suggested switching it up going Italian & pizza I was apprehensive. So we found El sol y la Luna and our server Jorge was so attentive and gave us great recommendations. We started with French fries that were homemade felt like home with 4 sauces. We tried two empanadas that Jorge recommended and they were full of flavor and must try cheesy fresh deliciousness. We order two pizza’s pepperoni & bolognese with a lasagna for our family if 4. The cheese the sauce so light yet full of flavor we ate it all. My kids ordered the Nutella crepe for dessert and it was so authentic warm gooey Nutella goodness. Had a bottle of wine to pair with the meal it was perfect. Great food amazing service one of my favorite meals in Oaxaca. Thank you Jorge for a great...
Read moreWow! We got a table for 11 people on the rooftop area, and it was absolutely amazing! The environment was very aesthetic and I love the amount of patio furniture and plants that were present. There was also an upstairs bathroom, which was convenient. The guy that was serving us was so super patient and funny, which I really appreciate. He was very attentive to anything we needed. The margarita pizza I ordered wasn't the best margarita pizza I'd ever had, but it was still good. I also ordered the juga del dia--I forgot what it was, I think maracuya? Either way, it was decent. The majority of our group got drinks, and they were good. Overall, not my favorite place for food, but I LOVED the service and vibes here! Do...
