Issue: Oaxaca sales staff insisted we could take Mole on the plane and would not be confiscated, but that was not true - ours was taken from us.
Update: I did receive an email back with the response "we cannot take responsibility for the customs regulations in your home / destination country. We do emphasize that some of the moles, powder moles, are carry-on safe while paste moles are not carry-on safe."
I responded back "It was the Mexico City Customs that confiscated it, not our home country. There is a level of responsibility you have, because your staff insisted there would be zero issues, and yet in your email below you acknowledge some paste moles are not. Please educate your sales team on this."
Our guide insisted we could bring the mole through customs on our flight home, so we bought 3 mole to give as a gift.
Yesterday at the airport they pulled us aside, pulled out our luggage, frisked us, grilled us, and confiscated the mole.
We trusted your company to tell the truth, so this did not happen, I request you ship us the mole to make this right, and then happy to update with a positive review.
If our tasting guide had not insisted it could go through the airport we would have had it shipped home instead, but she insisted and I...
Read moreNo matter whether you are a neophyte or expert of mezcal or mole, don’t miss this experience!!
Daniel and the team are knowledgeable, approachable, and fun - you won’t spend a better 2-3 hours anywhere in OAX .
The mezcals are interesting, unique and worth the booking on their own. Daniel, a master sommelier, has spent years finding the best expressions of seven different mezcals that give you an appreciation of the variety available.
The experience and fun compounds when the moles (all excellent!) arrive and you savor the different combinations. I promise that you and your group will enjoy discussing pairings, preferences, and flavor profiles.
If you are looking for gifts - go no further! You can purchase anything you sample during the tasting in easy to transport packaging. There is zero pressure to buy, however, the quality of the products speak for themselves. I think anyone would be hard pressed to leave without a token purchase to stoke their memory.
If I could return to Oaxaca for the first time again I would make sure this was the first ting I booked. Don’t miss Mezcal y...
Read moreAlice is AMAZING! This one one of our favorite experiences of the entire trip! Her knowledge of mezcal, mole and the culture of it all was only surpassed by her enthusiasm to share. Quaint little location that’s tucked away in an apartment complex. But it’s set up as cooking school/dining room and very open. I honestly booked it for my husband as I never really enjoyed mezcal before. Even on the other tastings we had done on this trip. She completely changed my mind! We ordered one of everything, lol.And the pairings were perfect. One thing I’d like to note because I don’t remember what it said on the booking, but don’t come hungry. The tastings are small portions of mole, not mole dishes. I think this is an absolute MUST in Oaxaca!!! It didn’t hurt that we also had a super...
