I regret coming here. The food is way too overpriced especially for the quality and atmosphere. It feels like a tourist trap.
I only wanted the chile en nogada, but the waitress told me I could only have it with the 3 course meal which was not worth it at all. It was 590 pesos for a bad cocktail, a basic tetela appetizer, and an inedible “dessert”.
The cocktail tasted like pure syrup. I told the waitress and she told me it was probably sweet because of the St. German. Seriously? I think I know the difference. Even though I asked for sparkling water to be added it still tasted way too syrupy like pure pomegranate (not in a good way).
The tetela was laughable. It tasted like something old I could buy off the street for less than 30 pesos. Why would you serve such an appetizer when the main dish already has a lot of flavor? Tourist trap forcing you to spend more on bad, cheap quality food.
The “dessert” needs to be thrown in the trash. The bread shaped like a corn was dry and gross. I couldn’t even eat it. The ice cream was bland and clearly not quality made.
The cocktail, dessert and main dish all had pomegranate. It was too much of that flavor. Might as well have been one big dish.
Forcing people to pay for more food just so you can make more money is bad business. Also the stairs look old and make you wonder how they can even charge those prices.
I would never recommend this business and obviously will never return. Overpriced place that clearly cares more about money than an actual food experience.
If you want to spend money at least go to a fancier place like Catedral Restaurant. You will notice an...
Read moreMy lord, where do I even start. The atmosphere is fantastic, and provides a great view of the city of Oaxaca, as I would definitely recommend going towards the night hours, as you can see the vibrancy of the city. My wife and I, went during happy hour both times, as they offer great deals on starters, (para empezar) y también, las mezcalinas as well. We have had two of the three ceviches on the menu, and both were outstanding, as well as the presentation being immaculate too. For the main course, I can’t remember the exact name, but was a generous portion, with immense flavor. The highlight of our visit though, was our server Daniel (or H). The restaurant wasn’t very busy when we went, and he took time to describe every dish, as well as the culture behind it. Even more impressive, he knows so much about mezcal, and the art of making this traditional liquor. He is one of the best servers I have had in my entire life, and keep in mind, I have eaten at many different restaurants, across various countries, and he stands out by a mile. DANIEL deserves the world, and I would recommend coming here just to experience his hospitality, as well as the amazing food. Overall, 10/10 experience, and would recommend to any local, or traveler, looking to experience some of the best service, and cuisine in Oaxaca. Side note, this food is better than some of the most expensive restaurants in the center of Oaxaca, for literally...
Read moreVery nice staff and we were welcomed by a super nice welcome cocktail. Also the first and last course were very very nice! However, I believe that because I said one person didn’t eat meat, we got different plates in the menu and all of a sudden were served Italian dishes. We were a bit disappointed and confused by this, especially since the other person said she eats everything. Also, we were asked if we wanted to try a special dish made from an insect (if we understood correctly) to which we said yes, but then in the end we never got this, although we were quite curious about it. Would have been nice also to have a bit more time between the courses and to finish our wines before the next course....
