We had the absolute pleasure of having lunch at Yuku Bar today, and it was hands down one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in Oaxaca. Nestled away from the usual tourist trail, this little spot is an oasis of calm, craft, and culinary artistry.
We sat at the counter and watched, mesmerised, as every piece of nigiri was prepared fresh right in front of us. The attention to detail was extraordinary – each movement deliberate, each ingredient handled with care. The eel nigiri was the standout: buttery, rich, and perfectly balanced with that gentle kiss of umami. Every bite was a masterclass in simplicity and flavour.
What makes Yuku Bar even more special is the vibe totally chilled, welcoming, and intimate. Watching the chef prepare everything from scratch, including slicing the fish and forming the rice with such precision, felt like being let in on a beautiful secret.
If you’re in Oaxaca and appreciate truly fresh, handcrafted Japanese food in a relaxed and intimate setting, Yuku Bar is not to be missed. A real gem, we’ll...
Read moreI was delighted to come across this hidden gem. Stayed in Oaxaca for 3.5 days and went there twice as it was, without a doubt, the most exceptional culinary find in Oaxaca.
Yuku offers an unparalleled slow dining experience that masterfully intertwines Japanese and French culinary techniques with the rich Oaxacan flavors. The intimate bar seating gives you a front-row view of the chef’s meticulous and intentional cooking.
Depending upon your appetite you can go for bites, lunch or a more extensive dinner. I highly recommend the omakase, the chef’s tasting menu. For me the hero dish was the maki oyster mushroom en papilotte. A beautiful Japanese French fusion recipe.
The setting is minimalist yet warm, allowing the food to take center stage. With the soft, ambient music playing in the background this slow dining experience is for sure one to remember.

Read moreIncredible meal for our last in Oaxaca. Very small restaurant with just a counter for around 7/8 guests, a lovely intimate setting. We were made to feel completely at home by Juan, Edouardo and Anna. The service here was the friendliest we'd experienced all throughout our trip across Mexico. Juan's passion for his craft shone through, and we loved chatting to him throughout - it felt like having dinner round a friend's house, but with exceptional Japanese food. Every dish was perfect and lovingly prepared. Juan - keep doing what you're doing! We both wish you all the very best for the bright future and career you have...
