Mexcalli Playa — Restaurant in Playa del Carmen

I walked by this place a few times before I finally tried it. And I hate to do this as I almost never do! But food was awful compared to what every other restaurant within the .5 mile radius has to offer

Although not to put the blame waiter, I asked him if he would recommend the steak!? As I have been eating fish the last couple days and wanting to switch it up. He said yes it’s my recommendation and it’s really good.

I ordered a New York strip ( medium)

And I got slapped in the face, as soon as it came out, look at (photos)they served it looking like that with sliced tomatoes on the side. And the steak was not cooked or seared , I asked them to please sear it at the minimum. I’m still mad because I actually tried to eat it!! No!! Horrible I asked if they could do something else with the steak. Anyways I ate as much as I could then I just walked across the street to the burger joint!

Went here on a tinder date, lol. Big mistake. Got food poisoning for 2.5 days. The atmosphere is nice as they have a rooftop porch, and the staff was pretty nice. But the food itself was probably the worst food I've ever had at a restaurant, if not in a very long time. The coconut shrimp were literally served over a bed of shaved carrots soaked in water? Guac was mid. Seafood soup was probably what gave me the sickness. They also do not accept Discover. Everything was waaaay over priced. Our bill was almost 100 U.S. dollars. Seems pretty from the outside and the drinks are a fun presentation but drinking them leves much to be desired. The margaritas are very sweet and fake orange tasting. The bathrooms were reminiscent of a night club at 2am even though it was 9 pm and we were the only customers. When my wife respectfully asked if a two dollar item could be removed from the bill she received insults and accusations based on her nationality.
