A friend from Merida recommended El Toro for seafood. What do I think about the restaurant? - Let's say I am no longer friends with the guy who recommended this place. The old saying states: "You always get what you pay for." However, we paid around 65 (Dollars) for two soups, a fish fillet, and a small lobster tail. This is the worst seafood soup I have ever had in my life. How is that even possible, being so close to the sea? I do not know. Yes, the fault is mine because I should have waited to see what the local people were getting, which was fried fish. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this place, and I do not think I will give a second chance. There are other options on the Malecon; I would try those next time.

I paid over $20 dollars fir a tasteless fish called ‘’mero” that the server recommended as the best fish also I need to add that the fish I wanted and had already tasted the robalo the only fish they had was almost 4 pounds and would have been double the price, is not the money that I spent that hurts is the fish had no taste even after I put hot sauce lots of lime and if I may add the server didn’t even care that I didn’t eat it , since they know I was a tourist and I picked this place based on reviews that is a also where locals eat , doesn’t even have a view of the ocean at that would have been worth something, DO NOT RECOMMEND

Very good food and a great price. Wish we found this earlier in our trip as we would have come back very often. We ordered two fried fish, shrimp ceviche, grilled pork, fried chicken, and fries. Everything was excellent. We speak some Spanish and had no issues, as with all places in this area, everyone is so nice you can get by with little to no Spanish speaking of you can figure out the menus. I would highly recommend the grilled pork and everyone in the place came for the fried fish (which you can watch them dry in the back of the restaurant).

While in Progreso for 3 days. I ate twice here! Prices are very reasonable for the amount of food you get. The large fish plate feeds 3 at least is excellent! I love there beans. Tortillas are fresh. They serve these onion slices that mixed with another wine colored veggie and marinate together. Damn, I could not get enough of those onions. I'm not a big onion fan, but these onions! Bring them on! Also try the Pollo and shrimp planchet, simply wonderful! Just a great go to place for great food. BTW, all the locals I asked for a good dinner place to eat always told me El Toro! El Toro is an easy walk from any of the beach front hotels on the boardwalk! One last comment! If you are looking for fine dinning? This in not your place! El Toro is simple, casual dining with great food and friendly...

This place was pretty busy when we came in which is what made us stop. The building is well made for good air flow. The bathrooms a bit sketchy with no toilet seats, all bowls full amd not flushed and pre-portioned toilet paper for the women. The service was quick and friendly. The menu was all fish so not many options for anyone that doesn’t want seafood, but they had side orders of rice, beans and French fries which we got for our youngest. The ceviche was delicious and the garlic shrimp. The shrimp diabla was good. Thought the portions to be a little small for the price. The Michelada was delicious but no pop options. Glad we tried it but wouldn’t go back...
