This was a nice place to visit mainly for the view and ambiance. They had music playing in the background that was pleasant with comfortable seating while gazing out to the beach. However, this café appears to cater to the tourists and the daily cruiseships that port here. As you're paying American pricing for the average coffee and food served. Even though the food and coffee is presented nicely, it's bland and lacking in taste. Perhaps if they jazzed it up a bit with spices and sauces, it would have brought the omelet I had to life. We expected the higher pricing going in, and we don't mind paying it if it's backed by quality and delicious food. What I'm not a fan of is paying is premium for mediocre food just because of the location. On top of this, you get the privilege of paying the tourist tax on the already pricey bill. Whereas if you dine anywhere else in Progreso off the malecon, you're not charged the 'tourist tax'. But if you must have ocean view and are too lazy or pressed for time to go explore some other restaurants off the main drag, then this is typically what you should expect. There's many other options around town that are worth trying. Tradional local establishments & expat options too that are easier on your wallet. Just be prepared if you stick to the malecon, you'll be paying what you're use to being charged back home if you're from the...

There are 2 reviews to this place.... The beach location with the beach chairs and the food.

Let's start with the beach location. We were looking for a beachfront location where the chairs come "free" as long as you order food. I walked up and down the malecon, and this was the best option that provided beach chairs and a beach bed. As long as each person purchases an entree and a drink, it's "free". Most places just have tables and plastic chairs to sit in but this location had actual Beach loungers and also a beach mattress which was comfortable. For this part of the review, they get five stars and they have pretty good service out on a beach.

Now the food, unfortunately the food was just Meh and the drinks were just ok. I ordered a cocktail with no ice and they brought me a cup half full with some kind of drink and chunks of mango in it. I was a little shocked that my cup wasn't full all the way.

The fish and chips were okay but super greasy and made me feel really really greased out.

I would say that the service is good and the guy attending to us did a really good job.

Also, they have very clean and good private bathrooms that are kept clean throughout the day.

If you're looking for the best loungers at the beach and are okay sacrificing food, then this would be the...

On a recent trip to Progreso, we really enjoyed exploring the little back alley taco joints. But occasionally we wanted something a bit nicer, and Toast and Coast became our go-to place. We had a really great breakfast here, I greatly enjoyed the herbed omelette and I loved the fresh salad that came on the side. For lunch one day we shared the arrachera sandwich, the bread was so delicious and soft, yet held up well to the meat filling. Twice we had happy hour drinks. I recommend the mojito frozen. Drinks were strong and not watered down, which often happens at happy hour. This is the perfect place to enjoy a happy hour cocktail and watch the sun go down. It's on an end of the malecon that is a bit quieter, it was very peaceful and relaxing. Service was impeccable! We were served by Jovani and Alexander and they were both exceptional. Honestly, this is way better service than I have gotten in the states in a long time. We were never left wanting for anything, and we were never left with dirty dishes or glasses on her table. Truly outstanding service, which is also a testament to good management. I applaud them all. Thank you Toast and Coast for giving us such enjoyable experiences. We most definitely will be back on...

This is a little cafe right across the street from the beach, the atmosphere is great. The food is good. Even though our server was friendly — the service part lacked so much. We ordered 2 sets of pancakes and waffles and had to request syrup more than five times, and every time, they would bring us a drizzle barely enough for a bite. When we ordered coffee and asked for cream, they brought us very little, literally like a couple of tablespoons, same with sugar -1 envelope per cup of coffee. They are very stingy here, yet the portions are normal size. We ordered some pancakes to go and when we got home and opened the bag. They had crammed all 3 pancakes, the fruit, and the bacon into one tiny box. It was so gross it looked like mush. They could have used a bigger to-go box or 2 smaller ones to separate sweet from savory. We spent around $100 usd for 2 house pancakes, chicken and waffles, 2 sets of chilaquiles, an acai bowl, 2 coffees, 3 juices, a side of eggs and bacon. It's street parking, and there are ramps for stroller and wheelchair access. The bathroom doesn't have a baby changing station.
