After reading other Google reviews of this mezcaleria, we decided to pay a visit. Located in the centro historico, Miel de Agave was a short walk from our hotel and easy to find. The establishment itself is well-designed with a good ambience.
We decided to sit at the bar so that we could easily converse with the staff. The mezcal selection is enormous, but the friendly bar manager talked us through how they procured their selections from various regions of Mexico. We were given an informal education on the different species of agave plants used to ferment alcohol, which gave context to how special and rare some of the bottles were. When we were still feeling indecisive, she picked 3 to 5 bottles and talked about their origins and flavor profiles. We each got two rounds and really enjoyed learning about the mezcals we chose. The food is locally sourced, with Chile en Nogades as a specialty. We started with typical appetizers such as chalupas and tacos, which are very finely prepared and far superior to street food. We used google maps as a way to find a Meszcaleria but instead of just having a Meszcal Andrés picked up on our interest and explained about the whole process of making a Meszcal, let us taste serveral kinds, taught us about how to properly do a Meszcal tasting and so much more.
