Lovely spot with a view if you are seated up on the balcony. We had wine, but we will return for dinner.
Update 3/20/24: Decided to come in for dinner. We usually avoid restaurants in the Zócalo because they have universally mediocre overpriced food in exchange for a great view. This was better than some of the others. The restaurant is 4/5 for zócalo, 3/5 for Puebla.
Bread: Served with dinner for free. Fairly bland and not warm. House salsas are excellent, and help the bread.
Craft beer: Small selection of craft, unfortunately served barely chilled, almost room temperature (even the lager). I'm a craft enthusiast and I enjoy cellar temp ales, but these were tepid.
Sopes de pulpo: Pretty good. Tender sopes, generously topped with octopus, a bit of fresh cheese, seasoned nicely. Add a bit of lime and house salsas. Would repeat.
Tortilla soup: Also pretty good, and the bread is a nice vehicle for it. Decent portion, deep flavor, and seasoned nicely. Would repeat.
Tuna: Oversalted and overdressed. Can't really taste the fish. Served in a lovely stack, but this needs a rework. Wouldn't repeat.
Service: Slow but friendly.
Price: Overpriced, plain and simple, like most Zócalo restaurants. There is better food in Puebla at nicer places (try NUNI). You're paying for the location, so know that going in.
Atmosphere: Mixed bag. On one hand, the view is lovely. On the other hand, the bass from downstairs is so loud you can't hear the music at the restaurant, even though there are speakers next to you. Was rattled the entire time.
The servers give you a card with a qr code to write reviews and say to mention the name of the server on the review, and to mention the views, etc...
Don't. Do. That.
Prompted reviews are offputting, classless, and dishonest. It is sleezy, and EXTREMELY uncomfortable for guests who are (over)paying for a nice dinner. We are not your advertising or billboards. Impress your guests and they will write good reviews without being asked. I cannot stress...
Read moreWe booked a table here for new years and compared to other restaurants close by it wasnt cheap. We arrived early and the service was good, that was until more people arrived and then things fell apart. We had to ask three servers before we would recieve drinks that we had ordered. Once the starter came out I had to wait an extra half an hour to recieve mine, by this time everyone else had finished thier food. I can only describe the meal as horrendous. The meet was so dry and each different cut was cooked differently with some being rare and others well done. The food tasted and had the texture as if it had been cooked and left on the hot plate for a good few hours. Half of the meal was cold while the other half was like warm.
The main problem came when my girlfriends main came. She is a vegetarian and we have more than sufficient notice as to this matter. She received two portabello mushrooms with a sprinkling of cheese that looked as it had just been thrown on the plate. When asked if she would receive any sides we got a blank look and then asked the waitress to check if she had any avacado, she said she would check. After 20 minutes she returned with a plate of tinned sweetcorn and didn't even give an explanation or apology. Overall a complete waste of money, I would never return here and would suggest anyone reading this doesn't either. This is one of the worst dining experiences I...
Read moreWe decided to have a drink at Attico 303, a rooftop restaurant by Zocalo de Puebla before we retire for the evening. The hostess informed us that the restaurant typically requires a meal purchase but made an exception after consulting the manager. I was excited about the rooftop view of the Catedral de Puebla; however, the overall experience was very disappointing.
First, my MIL and I got stuck in the elevator, which only allows three passengers at a time, for about five minutes with no apology for the inconvenience. Then, because we weren’t ordering meals, we were seated on a lower level that prevented us from enjoying the cathedral view directly, despite available seating upstairs. The server treated us poorly, with a sour demeanor (worse than Bilimbi, one of the most sour fruits in the world from Indonesia), even though we ordered dessert along with our beverages. My diluted Cherry Old Fashioned certainly wasn’t worth the US$14.
While the restaurant has a trendy and stylish atmosphere, such snobbish treatment is unacceptable. Additionally, the restaurant wasn’t busy and there were at least two managers on the floor who seemed completely clueless. Also, an apology for the unpleasant elevator incident isn’t too much to ask; it’s just common courtesy. My sweet FIL still tipped the server generously, but she wouldn’t have received a single extra cent if I...
