EL REFUGIO BAR — Restaurant in Puerto Morelos

Very disapppinted both times we went. Ordered rellenos. I thought they'd brought me someone else's order when they put it infront of me. Instead of a light and crispy coating made from beaten eggwhites with yolks gently folded in before lightly frying, this stuffed poblano pepper was covered in a thick batter that tasted of nothing. The ground beef inside was totally bland with no authentic flavour at all. And there was absolutely no cheese. It was served on a bed of white rice...WHITE RICE! The sauce was not good, either. The dish was a total dissappointment. It seems this is really just a place for having drinks with the food being an afterthought. I like the barstool and the large deck, but...

So great! I cannot begin to explain how amazing this place is. Firstly, the food was outstanding. The shrimp tacos were out of this world, full of zest and so fresh. My boyfriend's mom asked if they had quesadillas on the menu- they didn't, but they made them for her anyways!! Lastly, the service was beyond anything we've experienced here in Puerto Morelos. Such a great gang running the place. It was our friend's birthday and they really showed her exceptional hospitality, plus played a few hilarious pranks here and there throughout the night. A tale of two tacos. Very delicious tasting fish tacos baja style. Perfectly breaded and fried fish enveloped in a soft corn tortilla shell with baja sauce, shredded cabbage, and cilantro. On the other side of the coin the tuna tacos were dissapointing. The tuna was overcooked and didn't have much seasoning. When the tuna is supposed to be the star of the show with this style of taco this is a big miss, especially when you only get two instead of three like the others. Had a very good margarita, highly...
