This review is long overdue. But my feelings about this place are so strong that it doesn't even matter because to me it almost feels like I was there last week! <3 I don't even know where to start!? The food, the friends, the atmosphere... this place is full of some of the best in Puerto Morelos. Let's just go in order of mention- so the food. I cannot speak to the "traditional" menu (that I honestly hope sees its way out permanently lol) because it's not vegan. I can however speak to just about everything that is on their awesome vegan menu! My mouth is starting to water thinking about it now... in a nutshell, I'd call it elevated comfort food; think empanadas, pizza, pasta and a few very tasty desserts. OMG the pasta dish I had... drool... Quentin Sorrentino- gluten free ravioli, I did have it more than once in fact, in addition to multiple empanadas and more than my fair share of pizza. Everything is scratch made, fresh- like I watched my empanadas being stuffed for my order, right there! Everything I ate left me feeling satisfied and full without that gross heavy feeling that usually accompanies indulgent food. This place however has struck that balance between comfort satisfaction and healthy without a doubt. Oh, and I even brought empanadas back to Chicago with me. I had to! The friends now... this means everyone in the place! Staff did their jobs accordingly- and are all very good at what they each do, their care and passion are visible, but they treat you like a friend from the moment you arrive which is what stands out. Being a single vacationer/diner, I found it easy to feel at home here and made plenty of friends between the staff and other patrons. Which of course takes us to the atmosphere... it's built on the familial friendliness of all the people that make up Layla's which makes it all of what I just said and more. The space itself is pretty great; open air, unique boutique hotel above, near the beach... but again, it is the people and what they bring. They host different types of evenings, one being karaoke nights with Jaden Cornelius, so fun! My face hurt from smiling so much and I hadn't laughed so hard in so long thanks to the wildly entertaining and engaging spirit of child like abandon and play. Might sound corny- but really, I often left there feeling like a little kid who just had the best play date ever with my friends. This place should definitely not be missed!

We ate there twice once for brunch and dinner and I thought the lady was called Layla but it actually means something as I heard a man discussing it but I think the lay was for the sleeping in the guesthouse but I couldn’t hear the rest. The brunch was very tasty. Dave had a very tasty frittata and I can’t remember what I had. For dinner I had a mushroom stew with mash potatoes but sadly it was made with soya sauce so it was very salty and overpowering flavour and I am not a fan of that taste and I don’t put much salt on my food. The free extras were really tasty because they use organic and I love organic carrots and the dip wasn’t guacamole like we thought but broccoli. It was expensive but it was organic food. The juices were tasty. I had a warm drink in the evening and because the spiciness was overwhelming I asked for more warm milk, for no extra cost. The guy in the evening was friendly and chatty guy. Which was lovely. Good food but expensive.

Yum! We had the frittata, superbowl, frecklicious and pink soda. We are neither veggie nor vegan, just loved the look of the menu, so have this tucked away spot a whirl. So glad we did. Frittata was outstanding. By far the best breakfast I've had in Puerto Morelos. The only down side was it had a generous helping of garlic, which was less popular as I was the only one who ate that, so the others in our party requested I stay down wind of them for the rest of the day. Superbowl was VERY fruit forward. As you can see in the pictures the yogurt was more of an accompaniment. Both drinks were well balanced and flavorful. Vibe was really relaxed, staff were friendly and attentive. We enjoyed it so much we went back for dinner (they switch to Layla Vegan Pizza).

I am originally from NY and have eaten a lot of Manhattan & the various boroughs pizza. This pizza is not NY pizza. Not even close. Thought I would hate it. But I don't. I just don't compare them. Layla Vegan Pizza is a totally different animal (had to throw that in). So once I threw aside my pre-considerations of what pizza should be like, I was able to savor and enjoy a unique vegan dish. The vegan "cheese", its not cheese at all, but a mellifluous blend of vegetables, olive & spices whipped together into a scrumptious blend All vegetables are fresh and in great mixes. The creative choices of pizza are all quite goo, depending upon your preference. I tried most of them, all really good, and my favorite was the "Fungus Amongus". Fabulous blend of mushrooms, spices, vegan cheese (think this cheese was made out of hummus) and a mild sauce. Vegans will love it and non-vegans will be close behind. Also, some nights had live entertainment which added to the pleasant, laid-back dining experience.I...
