The Burger Underground- Puerto Morelos Restaurant — Restaurant in Puerto Morelos

I came early for lunch wanting a delicious burger after a week of wonderful Mexican food. I was the only one there and they sat me outside. Only to have 2 other sets of people come minutes later, sit inside and have their orders taken before mine. When it was finally my time to order I asked how the burgers come, and was told medium well (I was offered other options) but said I would like my medium well. (Which is always how I order it back home). The burger and fries came out, wow the bun was was toasty yet soft, the fries were excellent! The burger looked great..... until I took a bite into it. Pink, so I took another bite lots more dark pink, top to bottom. No waitress around (I hate sending thinks back like this, but this is barely medium cooked) Along with reading and talking to other during the week that got sick (not from here) I was already above cautious. Note I have been to Mexico over a dozen times through the years.... But this burger was raw enough I wouldn't want it at home either. (I hope the owner doesn't dispute the rawness as maybe they just pull my off the grill the same time as the other orders taken BEFORE me). I continued to eat parts of it as it was very tasty, but did not finish it (concerned about flying out the next day as well).... If it was cooked to medium well (or the waitress would have check on me sooner) I would have easily given them 5 Stars for this burger...

EDIT: the owner of the restaurant reached out to me directly and apologized for the poor service we received the other day. He was very kind and understanding of the situation. He wants to see us again in person so he can apologize. We will definitely be back, and we will continue to support Joe and his business as we do truly love the food and the restaurant itself! Although we LOVE the burgers and food at Underground Burger (We’ve been here 3+ times before) we were appalled at the service we received today, April 10, 2025. We didn’t wind up eating there today because the male server who was on shift at around 4:30-5pm was very very rude and unwelcoming. We were a disappointed group of 8 adults and 1 child (who was very hungry) since we had to walk away and chose somewhere else to eat… not sure when or if we’ll be back… service is so very important - we even walked by later in the evening after going elsewhere to eat, and it was...

I have been following Puerto Morelos online for several months and The Burger Underground was often favorably mentioned. So when I came to PM for my first time this week, I had to try this place. I did not think that the burger would be anything great. Coming from the United States, I know what a good burger is. You typically don’t find a great burger here in Mexico. This time I was wrong! The meat was juicy and full of flavor and the bun was lightly crispy and crumbly. The fries were awesome and blew away many of the fries you get back home! Plus the owner Joe, and his staff, were friendly, fun and helpful too. This place is now on my list for one of my favorite burger places anywhere and I can’t wait to come back.
