Day 4 of our trip to Tulum visiting from San Francisco. It was supposed to be date night for my partner and I, so I combed through reviews looking for somewhere off the strip that offered an authentic, intimate, yet accessible experience.
We were greeted by Carlos, our server, who walked us back to a beautiful enclosed backyard full of plants, hand carved Mayan chairs and tables, and clay glazed Loteria cards on the walls. The space was clearly intentionally put together and well cared for. As a server myself, I truly appreciated the warmth of the space and the care Carlos and the restaurant staff took in serving us.
Even the chips and dip stood out as they came out fresh, seasoned, and with salsa and beans on the side. Our drinks were tasty and effective, I had the mango Mezcalita and my partner had the passion fruit Margarita.
We split Cholupas as an appetizer, which was really light, balanced, and flavorful. I had a Mexican steak bowl and thoroughly enjoyed the tender juiciness of the steak and interplay of the veggies with the beans and rice. My partner had the ribeye burrito, which was once again quite tender, flavorful, and fresh.
For dessert we had the Mexican doughnuts and the fried plantain with two glasses of Carajillo. I have to say it all tasted wonderful. The doughnuts were coated with coconut cream, perfectly crispy on the outside, and moist on the inside, while the plantains were lightly drizzled with a rum cream and garnished with a little mint. The Carajillo was the perfect digestive to end a night of pushing our stomachs to the limit. Offering just enough energy to motivate us to get out of our chairs and back into the car to head home.
All in all, this was one of the best experiences I've had in Tulum. The food was top notch, the space is absolutely stunning, and the staff are warm, attentive, and open. Many...
Read moreMexico and good food is a combination that goes well together. But this restaurant brought that concept to another level though. More so, I think this place was even one of the highlights of our journey through Mexico. And that is not just because of the food but also because of the story.
It all started with us almost being starved to death and looking for a restaurant to eat until we stumbled upon this cute little restaurant. We were greeted very friendly by the service of the restaurant and they were very eager to assist us. We ordered food for a whole cohort. The food did not take super long to arrive and when it did, we were all starstruck. The food was delicious, the quality was superb. So we kept ordering and ordering, and they kept bringing and bringing. After having feasted for about 1,5 hours, we were finally satiated.
After that, being impressed as we were, we wanted to thank the cooks for cooking diner for 11 hungry guys. She told us that she was so humbled by our compliments. Because she was so nice, we told her we wanted to take a picture with here (see below). We started applauding for her and her companion and then she broke down in tears. And that’s when she told us that on that exact day, she had been contemplating on closing down the restaurant because she did not have enough customers. But this gave her a new boost of energy to continue. Crazy how Life sometimes write these scripts… It was such a beautiful moment of communion.
We left this place, not only satisfied from the flesh, but also from the soul.
So please make sure you go to this place and experience it and help this place to continue its journey, and don’t forget to thank the...
Read moreThis is truly a hidden gem. We stubbles across this restaurant our first night in tulum. This place exceeded any and all expectations. The food was spectacular! The best way i can describe their menu is a modern clash of both Mexican and A few other dishes. Making the menu perfect for picky eaters. There’s definitely something for everyone. The cocktails were so yummy.
The atmosphere is so calm , relaxing , and not to mention the outdoor seating is such a nice vibe.
However despite the food and drinks being AMAZING….. My absolute FAVORITE thing about this place was the service ! I mean I was absolutely blown away by the attentiveness of the staff. They took their time to engage and answered ALL our questions both about their restaurant and tulum in general as it was our first night and they didn’t hesitate to engage in our question ls which then turned into amazing conversations.
We will definitely be back before I leave and that says a lot being I normally don’t revisit places when I’m traveling but this place really was amazing. Will recommend to anyone from anywhere looking for a cute little lunch or dinner spot with...
