This restaurant is insanely expensive at $44.50 USD for a buffet entry. To make matters worse, I was charged nearly $17 more than I agreed to with our server. My wife and I were visiting the famous Xcaret during our stay in Mexico. We ate lunch at the La Isla buffet and after initially thinking the buffet cost just $19.50 USD per person, I was shocked to discover that our bill was $89 USD; confused with our server, I went back to look at the sign that I was the $19.50 amount for. Although the $19.50 was a price that I saw, I also saw the price of $44.50 per person on the sign and accepted my mistake. Our server had a very simple job of basically only getting our drinks because it was a buffet, but I still tipped generously at 15%. There was 4 simple options to tip on his card machine as he ran the card charge right in front of me option 1.) 10%, option 2.) 15%, option 3.) 30% and I do not remember the option of the 4th amount. But I agreed to 15% and he clearly heard me and charged it. Again, the full price was $89 USD ($44.50 x2 buffet meals). 15% of $89 USD is $13.35 for a grand total of $102.35. I was eventually charged $119.29 which includes a tip of 34%, which was not even one of the options when he charged my card. The next tip amount after 15% was 30%. A 30% tip would have still only made the full amount to be $115.70. So there is no way a mistake could have been made. I believe it was a blatant overcharge and because of this belief, I am working with my credit card company to recover the entire tip amount. I am incredibly disappointed in this expirience and it does not sit well with me regarding my overall Xcaret expirience. This is now the second time I have been severely overcharged in Mexico, with the first time being charged about $6 at the Cancun Airport. It has never happened in the United States during my entire adult life. My advice is to pay directly in cash to avoid...
